Hey, I am just starting out and I have a few questions. I am interested in taking some classes at GuitarCenter, and want to make a little area in my basement where bands can come in, play, I will record them, and charge them. I have some interested bands already, and I think I have a good idea on how to make the recording booth. Use cubicle-like walls, put them on hinges connect to one another and use a cannabee(sp?) and a hook to hook the cubicle-like wall to the real-wall when wanted like that. I was also thinking of lining the inner side of the wall with sound foam, and place some sort of shag carpet there. I think this way there wouldn't be any major damage to the floors and walls and wouldn't put me in debt for trying to pay for it either. Anyone have any suggestions on this, and how I would rig up the mic, and what type of mic? Right now I really only have a sampler and a synth and have been using a minidisc to record because I have been broke. Now I have the chance to buy the 8 track digital recorder that I want, and to actually make some money recording local bands. Any ideas??

I think for starters, you might want to check out the "Studio Building/Display" forum. Just go through the threads, and absorb what you can. There are some folks there who can help with specific questions that probably don't visit this forum very often.

Better get some books preferably with some audio Instruction on how to EQ,add effects etc.
The room you describe sounds like its "Dead". No room ambience. Learn how to work around this
Miking different instrutments and adding effects.
If you plan on recording Bands Know your recorder real well. It will save you a ton of Time.
