Okay right. First of all I'm Using a
Pentium 4 Mobile Processor 1.6 Laptop. And A Hercules 16/12fw interface.

I'm using Cubase LE Software

I've installed (and reinstalled) the software. And Everything comes up fine. The asio drivers are there for the Hercules in the Device Set up menu.

Now then, when a track is record enabled, the channel doesn't come through.
The audio is going into the interface, and it's also getting to the computer according to the Hercules software. But it isn't going to the software.

I've tried all different channels and none of them work.

Now then, I went into the device set up and messed around with the Buffers.

This is where my knowledge lacks off, I'm not 100% sure on what buffers do, and I'm 80% sure this is where my problem is because if I change the buffer sizes, and audio signal will come in.

So I can start recording, and it will record for about 20 seconds and, bye bye to the signal. If I reset, and do again, same again. I've maxed it (12 x 256k buffers) and it does it again.

Now then I borrowed a copy of Logic 5 from a friend as I thought it might just be cubase(I don't really want to go buying software if its not going to work!)

And the same thing happens.
So it isn't the software.
It's getting to the computer.
I think it's the buffers.

My computers above the minimum requirments, and it's just really weird how this doesn't work?

Anyone have any idea at all?

What firewire chipset are you running? Make sure that is compatable with your hardware, almost sounds like its loosing sync

Did you try setting your buffer size higher? Rather than 256 try 512.
