So i record this new hardcore band and for the gear i have the recordings came pretty well i only have usb mixer and 2sm57s and a bunch of crap mics. I feel like the songs have potential but how do i mix and master it to the next level?

if you want to take some shots at mixin and masterin i can send you the tracks

Hi,

Sounds cool !

I´d like to hear all the recorded tracks by their own, cause its hard to say where the problems are and how the raw recording came out.

As far as I can say by hearing the mix, the drums are way to bright and direct, they need a different room ambience.
The bottom of the snare is kind a missing (around 200Hz and below)
The guitars have too much going on at around 3000-4000Hz.
The Kick gets burried by the bassguitar.

Mastering isnt the way to fix things , mixing is the cure.Try to fix things in the mix. If the recording is bad, make a new one.

A bad mix = a bad master
a good mix = a very good master

I´d be interessted in trying to mix the song.

A happy new year !

I disagree with this. Mixing isn't the cure either... proper tracking first is the cure. Tracking something right the first time is always better than trying to "fix it in the mix".

If all you have is crap mics, then you need to figure out how best to utilize them until you can get something better.

Sorry, I should have read your post a little better. That's what you said.... :o

Drums sound weak and thin. Snare needs more low-end meat and the kick can use more attack. Toms sounds kind of flat. I like the crunch of the guitars, but they're kinda bright and harsh. The performance is pretty sloppy, but it kinda works with this song. Vocals are okay. You can't do a whole lot with this genre. Tame the guitars and make drums sound bigger and you'll be on the right track.
