Hi- I need help with my set-up, I am getting a lot of feedback on my vocals tracks noises, feed back and humming from mixer. I try turning down master volume in sound card of the pc its helps a little. I will appreciate if anyone can help me.

My current set up is as follows:

1. Compaq Presario SR-2100 PC – Window XP , Ram 3 gig, 4. Cakewalk Sonar Power Studio 250 with Sound Card

2. AKG Perception 200 condenser mic plug into- Mic Amp output from Mic Amp
In-put to Track 1 of Mackie DFX-6 channel mixer.

3. Mackie DFX-6 channel mixer- Main out-put (L/R) (2 Mic cables) connected to in-put mic 1Left and mic 2 Right of Sonar External USB Sound Card

4. Roland monitors- out-put (RCA Cord) plugged into Sonar External USB Sound Card

I welcome any advice thanks!!!!

Out of curiosity, why are you using a mixer? There's really no reason to use one with the Power Studio 250 interface: just plug your mic straight into it. See if that helps?

*edit: also, your internal soundcard volume shouldn't have anything to do with anything, if you're using the Power Studio as your interface.

When I plug my mic in input 1 Left it records on 1 side instead of both sides

But can't the pc itself cause noise? That's what I thought.

You're likely recording each track in stereo: there's no need whatsoever. Record using only one input on each track, and ditch the mixer.

Ahh, gotcha! You might have more luck plugging the outputs of your interface/sound card into the mixer instead, in order to split the signal between monitors & headphones. That way, the mixer won't affect the recorded signal.

Feedback?

This is only an issue if you are tracking with loud monitors in the studio, a bad idea.

Todzilla is there a solution this problem
