I Need help setting up.

I would really enjoy help for completely settin gup a "studio" I call it a studio because yes someday i would like to own a room that would be used for pro recordings.

I am looking at a mackie ONYX series that has firewire option so that is all i know.

How would I set up to use my computer to rcord through vegas and edit the waves in soundforge.

I would like to know what equipment also (processors) i would need to have.

The aplication would be to record metal at high quality. I hear that shure sm57s are nice.

I am planning this for the future. Obviously technology will change and cards will get outdated and programs better. Im just thinking about what kind of equipment (i.e. compressors, effects units) would cost now and what would be ideal for a really decent (out of 10 an 8 or 7) studio as if I were going to set it up today.
