I need help recording

ok i got an 1820M to record... so i have all this plugins to fix my voice just like a reall studio but virtual... i rap and do reggaeton so i want my voice to sound punchy and hard... and compress with the beat and have a reverb that its perfect and make my SSSSS go away... any helpp caue right now my voice sound low quality you know flat without any effects and if i put the plugins its sounds bad becuase i don't know how to do any of it... even though if you have all this hardware i can stilll do it virtualy so atleast give me your settings like for example: put it at 20 percent or set the frequancy at 40khz you know that help....

What mic are you using? Are you running through a preamp first? (Or does the EMU have a preamp built-in. I don't know. ) You might try getting fairly close to the mic, that will help bring your voice up to the front, very in your face. It is hard, if not impossible, to give exact settings (even with having identical hardware and such) because everyone's voice is different, everyone has a differenty style, our rooms are different, etc...... I would say do some reading on this board, and on the internet. Sorry to say, but there is no magic setting for anything. Google for The Project Studio Handbook and you will find a great resource on home recording.

I've never tried it in vocals but I do know that to make a snare or bass punch you use compression. These are suggested settings (find what you like best): medium to slow attack, medium to fast release, and a ratio of 3:1 no more than 5:1. You may need to adjust the ratio, it really has a lot to do with the gear you have.

Also, I've heard that a lot of rap vocal tracks don't use any verb.

...that are very difficult to answer simply.

Look around the BBS a bit- there are a couple threads about compression near the top right now that will help you get a handle on understanding what that does.

Check out the "mics and polar patterns" thread at the top of the mic forum. Its a *THICK* read, but if you get through it you'll know about as much about mics as anyone here.

You'll want to figure out how to use a De-Esser to get rid of the SSSS sounds.
