i need help please!

okay im using cool edit pro...

i insert the beat/instrumental in track 1.
then i armed track 2 for recording and started recording.. then when i took teh beat off of track one and tried listened to track 2 it had the beat on it... and it's not cause im using speakers im using headphones.. and its the exact beat and perfectly clear .. well im doing a collaboration with my friend and i need to send him an acapella verse .. so any help would help
 
Your soundcard seems to be recording the beat in addition to your track 2 performance. It could be that you have the wrong source selected in the record properties of your sound card. Go to control Panel and check your audio settings. Wth the soundcard's mixer up, go into - FILE - PROPERTIES, and select the "recording" properties... pull up the recording MIXER and see which source is selected. Some people have a selection called "what you hear" or "Stereo Mix", those are the kiss of death if you want to multitrack because your computer will then record every sound going in/out/through your sound card w/o the isolation you need to track. Make sure "Line In" only is selected.
