okay, i need some help. heres my setup. i have a mackie 1602 mixer, im going into a m-audio quattro interface, and recording on sonar 4 producers edition, im trying to record my band, but MAINLY, im having problems with drums. im currently micing my drums with 2 sm81's as overheads, a sm57 on my snare,
a beta 52 on the kick drum, and 2 oktava mk-219's on my 2 toms. im going into the mixer and im only using some EQ on the kick, and a little bit on the snare, i have the 2 over heads panned to the left and right, and my two toms panned to the left and right, the kick and snare are in the center. i think they sound like absolute crap, i mean, not like everything else sounds fine. but i mean, with that mixer and those mics i should be able to get a pretty nice sonud all together right? if someone could just help me out a little bit itd be awesome. thers a link to one of our songs below, i know it sounds like crap.

You forgot to actually put the link in.

My first question would normally be. "What kind of music is it?". :) (Why do 85% of posters forget to mention this extremely important point?) I suppose if you put the link in, that question will answer itself, though...

Second question would be, "What is it you don't like about the sound?" It may very well sound like "crap", but eveybody has a different idea of what kind of "non-crap" it should go to.

If you post the link along with a description of what you think is wrong with it and a description of how you'd like to improve it, I'm sure there are a gaggle of folks here who could geiv you some good tips.

I'm probably being a bit premature, but one postential general difficulty I see based upon your description is twofold: 1) you're using a lot of mics, and, 2) your panning goes against the grain of the mic placement. Especially the panning of the two tom mics (which are potentailly optional to begin with). If you're getting a lot of kit bleed into the mics, you could be having timing and phase issues being smeared all over the stereo image that are non-complimentary because they don't match the physical reality.
