I just need general helpful feedback from you guys. Hate is welcome but be truthful.

The vocal sound doesn't come close to living up to the sound quality of the backing. Where did you record the vocal? What kind of space?

I recorded my vocals in my room. This this isn't my house i cant really make any major modifications to the place im in...

Well, your spelling is better than a lot of the rappers that post here. +1 there! :D

In terms of vocal delivery: It's a bit monotone. You've got the primary technical points (being in time, etc.) but I'm not hearing any enthusiasm.
In terms of vocal production: It's kinda squashed and distorted. You may be recording too hot. Are you compressing the vocals? What kind of mic are you using?

I agree with VHS. The vocal is a touch monotone. You've got a good voice for it though and think if you actually sang it like you meant it, it would do wonders. there's just no feeling in the voice. It's like you're reading it off a sheet.

Vocals sound like they are coming in pretty hot, but your voice has a good tone and your rhyme structure and lines keep me wanting to hear the next bar. It's holding attention but yeah like others have said, more enthusiasm in the delivery would really brighten the track up.

Check your recording device and see if the input volume is turned up too loud, it's distorting pretty heavily. Could be a number of things, though.

I'd try to get as close to the mic as you can (assuming you haven't already done that).

The vocal is missing a little low and and it's kind of brittle in the upper midrange. It sounds like a (very) budget mic.

Budget mic, or budget recording space? At first, I thought it was the mic too. But even with a crap mic, you ought to be able to get a better sound than he's getting.

I agree with you on the space. But the brittle/crispy upper midrange led me to believe it's also a budget mic. Could be wrong tho. The lack of low end *might* be addressed somewhat by getting closer to the mic.

OMG! I love this guy. HAHAHA! Dude you made my day when you said it's like I am reading it off a sheet. I actually was... :( I guess I need to put more into it like the other guy said! :D

What pisses me off is that there are plenty of rappers who post here, and some of them are quite good (for what I know), but none of them seem to bother to comment much on each other's work.

There is a disconnect here between the backing track and the vocal. I feel like there is a background fizz, with an up close vocal. Don't worry about crap mic's or whatever, your vocal sounds OK, it is the mix that bother's me.

Thanks to all you guys!! I made a new song I reckon the quality has changed Ill post the link here when its uploaded.

Thanks for your feedback appreciate it lots and lots. The thing with me personally commenting on other "rappers" topics is that I am not experienced enough.. People are posting here to seek help from people who actually understand things. I count as a "newbie" when it comes to producing and giving feedback. Maybe, if I gain enough experience I will start giving people useful information about their work.

Turn the gain down on the mic first. Learn the part, feel it and then deliver the vocal it deserves. Reading the words as you go along will no doubt turn out robotic. If you can sing the thing blindfolded, in your sleep, with both hands tied behind your back, start tracking.

Lesson learned :thumbs up:

There are plenty of rockers and mockers that do the same thing. Not necessarily just the rappers. But I agree that people should get involved more.

You don't need to be a long service engineer or producer to give an opinion. Sometimes the best advice can come from those that aren't particularly looking for issues but point out the simple things, as it translates to them, in their space, on their systems. Anybody can give an opinion mate and most people on here would appreciate it, good or bad.

:thumbs up:

Hey lilseez, no hostility intended (OK - I used the word "pissed"). And certainly no hostility aimed at you.

I just come here when I'm in the mood and pick a few songs off the top of the list to comment on, and there is usually at least 1 rap song. I would actually like to hear what rappers have to say about each other, so I could actually learn some insight into the art, but in my admittedly sporadic time here I have yet to see much.

It was a comment on my limited experience.

Anyway... you don't have to be an expert to have an opinion. I am the living proof. :-)
