Hey everyone, I'm new to the board here, and I'm new to home recording. Anyways, I have a question to ask concerning soundcards. I'm a drummer, and of course, I want to get the most out of my sound and the most freedom during mixdown, but I'm in some what of a dilemna right now. I've read several posts on the forum pertaining to recording drums with each drum directed to its own independent track (on a computer), and some users have posted some links to sound cards which are applcable, but I'm still somewhat in the dark. The equipment that I've seen is either way too expensive, or way too cheap. I need something that's not going to totally destroy my budget, but something that's going to give me a presentable, professional sound. Can anyone help me with this? I'd like to record up to eight tracks simultaneously, each on independent tracks, so that I can edit each drum separately during mix-down. I'm using Cool Edit Pro to record and mix, and I have a variety of microphones. If anyone could help me out, that'd be great. Thanks a bunch.

Budget?

I'll say Echo Layla24.

Others will say MAudio Delta 1010 or 1010LT.

But I still say Layla.

Got any preamps or a decent mixer?

M-Audio is ok, the layla stuff is great too. The big question is what are you plugging into? Obviously a pc if you are running cool-edit pro, be more specific. Layla, Tascam, M-Audio all offer different input types for comp based recording. Firewire, USB, PCMCIA ect. BTW cool edit is now owned by Adobe and they call it Audition, owners of CEP can upgrade for free at this time. Don't know how long that will last.

Well, I'm looking for something like the Aardvark q10, something that comes with a PCI add-on. I can then just replace the existing sound card with that, so that I can plug in to it to record. What I'm thinking of doing is micing the drums, then running the cables into something like the q10 to record. Is this a feasibile idea? I have an eight channel mixer, but what's the use for it if I just want to go directly into the computer to mix? Also, the q10 is horribly expensive, but that's basically what I'm looking for, but cheaper. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks a bunch guys.
