I want to get a new soundcard for my computer. I have $200 to spend maybe more. I have a software :sony ez audio. all i need for inputs is the mic one not the 1/4" one. i think 1/8" i'm gonna run a chord from there to my tape player and play that while i record to my computer then i mix all the stuff on my computer and burn it.. Does this seem right i just want the best soundcard i can get.. I hope i didn't confuse anyone...

Just buy the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 ($150) which uses RCA inputs/outputs.

Its better than any Sound Blaster card from Creative.

Guitar center is doing their overstocked sale. You can score an Emagic audiwerk2 for a mere $50.00

And for what its worth, you will NOT use the mic input on your soundcard, you WILL use the line in. The mic input is for that $4 plastic piece of shit mic that came with your computer. The mic input has about the same level of recording clarity as the piece of string pulled tight between two soup cans.

I had the Audiowerk 2 for a while before I got my C-Port (I paid $100 for it). It's a pretty good card for 16 bit (or 18 bit digital) - it's a big step-up from the soup-can variety. If you're planning on doing a lot of processing on the audio you record, I'd recommend going with a 24 bit card, like brzilian suggested.
