Rock Steady
If yall don`t mind I`d appreciate it if you`d listen to a short chorus tag I got. I have bout fried my ears on it trying to mix in a guitar and organ, I think the organ is too loud , the cymbals too loud, and I think I scooped the whole thing out too much.
I got tired and thought I'd post and see what yall thought about it. If you have time, and dont mind, just tell me what your hearing.
thanks,
Ken

Listened to it about 10 times.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this. Sure, you should add something, a vocal or a melody. But as for the mix, I can perfectly live with this one. And about the loud drums:

quote Stewart Copeland (the Police) - "Well that’s my usual contribution. You could set up a recording of me in the studio shouting ‘More snare drum’. No I don't think the vocals are too far back. You can hear them okay. They are an important ingredient, I suppose. But a lot of bands forget that the drums are supposed to be loud. It’s not just that the drummer gets some attention - the beat is really important. It doesn't have to be loud so much as there. Think of Fleetwood Mac and the Beatles. The drums were always positive and loud on their records.

:D

Thanks Ped. I been hearing it differently every time and was gettin a lil frustrated. There`s a couple of timing blemishes I gotta get out too. This is a short tag that goes between the end of a chorus and start of a new verse or two, and will be a vamp out at the end of a tune I`m working on. Its just part of the basic rythym tracks.

I need to hear it when all additions are present. Until then, this sounds OK!

Btw, listened to a couple of your other tunes....good stuff. Nice moods.

I like the sound so far! I'll be waiting to hear the song when you're done.

Sounds good

Joe

Sounds fine man....pretty cool....
all loops??

How the hell do you guys do your drums anyways??

I just can't seem to figure it out...

Could be an interesting thread! But which forum? Here?

sounds pretty good to me.now get to work on finishing it!

sheppard

i see nothing wrong with the current levels..........sounds good to me

Sounds just fine to me, bro. Maybe the kick has a bit too much click, but then maybe not. I had a 3-year-old bothering me to go outside while listening.;)

I asked him what he thought , and he liked it too.:)

BTW, did you get that disc yet?

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree here.....

I find the drums to be a bit overly mid-scooped. That's it, just a bit too far on that.

So if you could just go ahead and....come on in on saturday....oh and I'm gonna need you to go ahead and come on in on sunday too...(office space)

KB - It's all messed up, and I know EXACTLY how to fix it, but I have to run right now...big important meeting in S. America. I won't be around for a couple of months, but man...I know exactly what this needs....

(it sounds good to me...the drums actually sound pretty decent to me now...I'm no drummer, though)

After gettin some much needed sleep and reading your posts I "think" I know what I need to do. The crash is too far left and a bit too strong, hats are too far right and a bit strong, kick needs some more meat on it around 110, snare needs some 600 mids. The guitar aint quite loud enough. I`m retracking the piano, its too dampened. pan b3 out a little to the right, and oberheim a little more to left. Maybe, lolol....

thanks Smokepole.
Joro: after I played the drums in they are looped in 4 bar sections, and then i went back and played in the fills for this section. The drums are Gold kit samples. I ran the kit thru Livesynth Pro after the track was cut.

shep: tis coming along pretty good. you`ll hear the whole thing pretty soon. I just need Boz Scaggs to come over and sing it. :)

Powderfinger: thanks for listening. The levels aren't that bad i guess, eq will do most of it.

Alan: yep, I`m easing the click (batter) down and fattening the shell on it. Got the cd, thrills and chills! I sent you an email. Thanks my brother.

jake: you`d make a successful dentist, just keep em coming back at $80 bucks a whack for evaluation and adjustments! :) hehehe see, the mids are scooped!

chris: I understand, you gotta keep the profile and communications on the up for the clients and the north shore ladies. White silk suit and cigars all the way!! Dont forget the Foster grants... :)
Thanks man..

Sounds good to me too......and I thought the drums had a decent sound......I hear the scoop Jake was talking about but they still sounded fine to me.
Do you have vocals for it? Who's gonna sing 'em if so?

Thanks Lt.
the vocals are still scribblings as of now, one verse and a chorus but I plan to complement the 1st verse with at least another to resolve the scene. I haven`t really thought about who`d sing it. You could handle the vocals though for sure. I have been thinkin bout some female bkgd vox but I don know. I made a crack earlier about Boz Scaggs (jokin of course). Actually, the thing is gonna be in that smooth Boz groove thing except for the bridge and the TYD (vamp till you die) at the end. I'd like those parts to glow and give off smoke. I have already thought about knocking at your door to ask if you could spare a lil fat sax. Between a lot going on at work, trying to work up a few tunes for the Nashville gig this weekend, son`s graduation stuff, daughters sports, and then trying to work on about 3 tunes for me I been drained. So... I need to get my ass in gear and get moving. :) Maybe I`ll have this bed made soon. I may pitch Ralph for some piano too if he has time.

I`m sure you and Chuck could pull off some Memphis Horns type routine easily... :)
