you asked - how good will those preamps be ?
answer is depends on the time you want to invest in building and testing. on my site www.soundclick.com/bmanning are 50 songs.
some done with nothing more than a simple few dollar transistor diy preamp i built out of low noise transistors and others done with pro recording studio consoles. most people cant tell the
difference. one of my new songs - lost little boy -
is at number 8 in the world general section after only a few days
on there and was done with home brew mic preamps.
the songs arent perfect - but nothing ever is. but they are
good enough that i've attracted the attention of a couple of labels. look for a site on the internet called jlm audio that has a nice preamp schematic. a basic preamp can be constructed thats clean out of 2 transistors. then if you want more gain you can
use a line mixer to boost the gain. hope this helps you.
