I want to record myself playing piano and singing. 2 Mics on the piano 1 for voc. and 1 in the room.

So I got four 1/4 cables in my hand and I want to stick them into a soundcard and press REC...

Is the Emu 1820M the only way to go?

Or will one of the cheaper M-Audio's do the job?

Do you have external preamps? If so, the delta cards are a viable option. If not, you may want to look into an interface with built in preamps, like the firepod. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any soundcards with exactly 4 built in preamps.

M-Audio Delta 44 is GREAT! Except like scrubs mentioned you need pre-amps. Something like a Mackie 1202 or the small Yamha mixer would work well for you (avoid Behringer if you can) A small mixer will also allow you to use headphones while tracking and control the output volume of your monitor speakers during mixing.

Check out the Soundcraft compact mixers also for a good DAW front end

a Delta 44 and a pair of DMP3s will do this nicely for a little under $700.00

I use the Delta 44. It does the job even though I don't care much for the card configuration program.
