Hi.

I just can't get round this, it's probably something so blindingly obvious that it's a shame to ask but I've got to as I can't figure it. If you's could help I'd be really grateful.

I'm building a bass trap following this guide:

http://www.basstraps.net/DIY-BASS-TRAPS-MADE-EASY.pdf

The wood frame is 48" X 24"(2" X 1").

The backing fabric is 50x26 inches. I can see that this covers the back no problem.

What I can't for the life of me is how the 60 X 40 inches fabric that it mentions will cover and wrap around the front long side???

Having 40" as you wrap across the 24" trap, there is no problem as you add it up -

24" front + 4" thick insulation(either side) + the 2" frame(either side) + at least 1" to staple it down(at the back). 24 + 4 + 4 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 38". That's fine, the cloth covers it.

But at the longer dimension, 48" long, things just don't add up to me. the cloth is 60" so...

48" long + 4" thick insulation(either end) + the 2" frame(either end) + at least 1" to staple it down(at the back). 48 + 4 + 4 + 2 + 2(60" already!!!) + 1 + 1 = 62".

Can someone figure it out? i just can't get my head around it.

Cheers, Ste. :o

The builder's guide mentioned using Ready Acoustic fabric. They may not be 60" if that is what was used in their TUTORIAL. Looks like their fabric is 64" long.

I like how the panel was built. Nicer than mine. I just covered my 703 with fabric and hung them directly on the wall. No wood frame or anything.

1 inch to staple down is not enough IMO - I like at least 3 inches or more so I can wrap it into the back staple it way down inside and get a nice tight seem.

60" is not long enough - the directions are wrong - minimum 66"!

You're right, you need 62" minimum on the length - the person who put that guide together didn't add correctly!

I should sue! lol.

I've been staring a that forever thinking that they couldn't have made a mistake.

Thank god I haven't bought the cloth yet. Time to get looking for something new.

Shame 'cos I really did like the Ditte cloth I had found:

DITTE Fabric - green - IKEA

These things attract dirt. The light-colored fabric shown in the tutorial probably wouldn't be the best idea.

Hi diggy.

I've had people say you can use regular cotton or 100% polyester.

What's your take on that?

That will work. I was mainly commenting on the color. A light color will start looking dingy before long from all the dirt that gets attracted to it. Best to go with something dark.

Thanks diggy.

Think I'll go with 100% polyester. £2 a meter! Cheers again, Ste.

Even better I've found poly cotton for £1.40 per meter.

As far as I've read and heard now, the cotton will be a slightly looser weave allowing higher frequencies in, while the poly will give a nice flat no wrinkle finish.
