I know what I want, but i don't know what to look for..please help

Yeah, im going to be building a recording computer at some point this summer and i figured the best place to start would be a decent sound card..all i want is something i can plug a mixer into, because i prefer that over digital mixers, which i have used in the past and didn't like..and im going to need a mixer anyways to play live..so, any recommandations on a decent soundcard for that under 350 dollars preferabaly?

any any other tips you can give me on building a home recording setup are welcome as well. thanks.

Number of inputs? Type of inputs? What software do you plan to use?
 
i was planning on getting a 4 to 6 channel mixer..and i just want to be able to hook it up to my computer, and im not sure what software i want to use..i haven't gotten that far yet..i don't know if that helps any..i don't really know what im doing so thats why im here in the first place i guess.
 
How many tracks do you expect to record at the same time?
