I have a free download of protools le so I thought I'd fool around. Is anyone here familiar with it? If I take the wave file from a sonar project and try to import them into protools it wont go. I'm thinking this is normal unless I export then import as a OMF file....right. As I said I have an older version of protools, the free download version and I dont think I can import OMF. Anyone got a clue? Jim

and thinking about it

I just have the protools disc and loaded it. Did I read somewhere I have to have the hradware to use it? Im getting a protools 6.4 new disc for XP. NO hardware..will it work without hardware??

First off...no pirating of software. Bad bad. No! Second, you can't pirate Pro Tools. So therefore I can help you...You need the hardware to run it unless you're using the Pro Tools free version. I don't know why you're not being able to import a wave file from one program to another. Make sure your sample rate is the same when creating the new session in PT. OMF file should work fine though.

Uh Hello!!!!!!

I said FREE DOWNLOAD!! Not a pirate version. It was a version avaliable to anyone with a computer. Free download!! sample rate is correct.

Hello...right here you stated you're getting 6.4 NEW disc for XP with no hardware. Pro Tools free is not available in 6.4 version and doesn't work on XP. So obviously one would assume that you're trying to pirate the LE version.

I have the free version that could be downloaded a year or two ago free from there site, I am getting the 6.4 disc in the mail next week. I just bought it off ebay. :)

when I say work, I mean all I want to do is load some wave file and play around with edit tools etc. I assume it wont have sound

people are selling the software by itself on ebay??? that's funny. although, that could also be a good way to rip people off and make some extra cash.....hmmmmmm. And no, you can't load up the program without the hardware. PT needs to see the DSP chip in the hardware before it starts up. some people say it's their way of making you use their equipment to use the software. i say it's a smart way to fool pirates....arrrrghhhhh!!!!

Ahhhhh!

I will get a pro tools set up eventually.I just thought I'd try it for fun. I have access to hardware. I thought could mess with it without it. I like Sonar but it is all I have ever used so ...

I tried the Pro Tools "free" version a few years ago. It doesn't run under Win 2000 or XP, and it doesn't run very well under ANY Windows OS. I thought it was a piece of junk - negative advertising.

My advice would be to forget about it.

sonar 3 is better than protools anyways...

just curious, how much did that pt disk cost you?? i definately would've at least checked it out on the protools webiste before i bought the software.

The free pt program shuts down after a certain amount of time, dosent it? Isn't it just a demo?

no...i think the only limitations you have are fewer plugins and fewer tracks. and the whole ordeal that it isn't offered for any newer OS's. but what do you expect when a company offers something for free. they're not in the business to give out freebies to people.

Unless they've changed it recently, the free version does not run on xp or 2000. So unless you're using me/98, forget it. I had the 001 system and it's pretty good for audio. However midi setup was a pain. I ended up selling it to buy a better mic pre for use with sonar.

I had a brain cramp!

I paid $80.00 for it. Yeah stupid,I'm usually good about researching item before I buy....not in this case! It is as far as I can tell a real PT disc, not a copy. Ah!!!! I hate stupid moves!

I just can't believe people out there are selling the CDs only. However, there was a guy on this forum a little while back looking for a PT CD. He had bought the hardware on ebay and the person only sent a Mac copy of PT and he needs the PC...or something like that. You might hit him up and offer it to him.
