Anyone ever get involved in Video Recording? I just bought a new camera for my church, a canon GL2 and I was wondering about software to run to capture it on my computer, I'm assuming I can use the USB transfer I have on the camera. Thanks, I might add that I will be doing live broadcast on a simple website from the camera, and the computer is fast enough.

Adobe's pretty popular in the home market....even Microsoft makes something I think.
If you want to get really advanced you can look at Final Cut Pro or Avid systems...but those will cost you.

sony vegas, hands down. this will give a very powerful audio and video program...

Funny someone brought this up cus I've been looking into the same thing...

Can you tell me if Sony Vegas is more user friendly for music video applications than any of the Adobe products?

Do each have their pro's and con's.. if so what are they?

Sony Vegas works well. However Microsoft Movie Maker, which is included with XP, has some good basic options that may be good enough for many.

There is also a product called Studio 9 from Pinnacle Systems that works well too. It has features somewhere between Microsoft and Sony, with a much lower price than Sony.

I've seen and toyed with the microsoft movie make program that comes with windows XP, but to me it seems nothing more than a toy. I was looking into getting something that would give me full range of editing options, effects, etc. How does Adobe Premiere stack up against it's major competitors?

USB for video? Eww.... A firewire card is... what, 20 bucks? Save yourself the trouble and use a bus that was actually designed for video.

Another vote for firewire. I also use a Canon GL 2 and it's a great entry level professional camera. The 3ccd setup provides far better quality than many of the low end cameras out there and is essential for some applications like green screen work. I use a Mac-based system for editing with Final Cut and Adobe After Effects. Of course, that's if you are looking for a sophisticated NLE (nonlinear editing setup). It sounds like you might be doing "webcasting" in which case standard editing software might be inconvenient and costly. I would look around for something that was designed specifically for webcasting.
