New Dell laptop, Core 2 Duo P8600, 2.4GH, 320gb HD running at 7200rpm. 4 USB's and a 4-pin firewire. I know that a 4-pin jack will not power a device, but is there any reason that as long as I plug the unit into the wall, I couldn't use a firewire audio interface?

I don't know why I feel that this firewire port is a faux jack, but I'm hoping it isn't just for show.

It MAY work
Laptops are typically not well put together for audio unless you buy a mac or a pc laptop from a specialized audio manufacturer like ADK Pro Audio.

It's not just for show but at the same time it wasn't put there with audio in mind. Laptos are, quite frankly, a crap shoot
