i know jack about midi

i'm getting better at recording audio, but i don't have the first clue about midi. i have a cable and a midi ready keyboard. i want to start using it to make some cool synth sounds and to build drum loops. i use a digi 001. what software to i need, what additional hardware could i use? any advice would double my knowledge of midi. thanks.

You can use softsynths triggered from your keyboard. Or hardware synths also triggered from your keyboard, or the sounds directly from your keyboard.

If you only have the one Keyboard, a Midi Joystick interface should Suffice for now. Its also the cheapest route. Thats PC based. If you have a Mac you may be plug&Play. Ask a Mac user.
