I could hear Bruce Springsteen singing this. Has that vibe.

There are timing problems with the drums, and the guitars are just a slight bit beyond the edge of being in tune to me. Sounds like an intonation problem. The lead guitar solo is a bit atonal.

Drums are pretty good, cymbals are a bit too upfront and crispy (hi-hat mainly), but it's the performance that is really messing it up. Kick is a bit low in volume and undefined. You need better bass guitar, I hear something like a bass guitar at points, not sure if it is the distorted guitar or what.

Add some lyrics and better bass guitar and the song would come into focus better.

Turn that high hat down!

It's drowning everything out......not a bad little ditty....it's not gonna garner any awards but it sounds ok.......went a little heavy on the effects on the guitars also.......bass is almost non existant....the guitar in the right speaker distorts out here and there especially in the beginning.....I can barely hear the snare beneath that pounding high hat....kick sounds boomy and has no presence in the mix.

This could definetly use a remix.Take a listen to some of the other guys around here and apply some of their techniques......some of the guys get CD quality.

What recording gear are you using?

[edit to add]
I started this post before emeric posted but I see he covered most of the same points I did.I pulled the page up and downloaded the song, then I took a shower, then I got something to drink, then I....well you get the picture.:D

No bass guitar, just hammer ons:cool:

It was completelt direct as for the guitar. Done so that I could use my two mics to get the drums as good as possible.....I know the cymbals are pretty heavy on the mix, but with 2 rooms what can I say......don't answer that;)

My friend has only been playing drums for one year:eek:, and he HATES anything under 220 bpm. I am getting him to get a couple mics, a 57 and something for his kick.

The guitar should be intune for the most part.

It is not that the guitar is out of tune, there is just quite a bit of chorusing on it. It has kind of a 50's feel to it. I think that you can develop it into a great song with some lyrics. I never record drums very well so I cant comment on that. I would just like to hear a little less chorus on the guitar. Nice tune.

Thank you King Elvis. There is a lot of chorus and even a bit of delay on the rythym track. The main elements of the song were originally written for solo acoustic guitar. I didn't want to play it properly on the electric because I can never replicate the way I can control the tone and feel on my acoustic......that and my drummer wasn't really digging the vibe.........I can still see him sitting on his throne just ready to fall asleep:( (that is never a good thing.....)

Listening to the tune 'power of greatness", theis reminds me of four track and sampler stuff I have hours of on tape. I hear the Boss drum patterns. it sounds like you pasted a long peice of you changing presets and then sampled and played over it.

The tune boxcar has potential but needs a bit of mixing. Vocals would really bring this to the next level.

The rhythym guitar takes up to much of the tubby eq area (315-500 khz) and the hat is gashing my ears. the effects are not really overdone depending on the vocal track. I would use very little verb on vox for this.

Good feel at the end.

Thanks.....

The Power of Greatness actually uses a friends Casio keyboard. I would play a beat, add some breaks and drum rolls....followed by stopping, recording another beat and doing the samething......Then I cut and pasted for like the next 5 years trying to learn the Roland cut/paste feature. I have to say that even though it was nothing more than me experimenting with sampling/efx/editing........this is still my most prized song out of sheer accomplishment.

Some of the other songs that I added use my Casio. I took a drum beat and added the rolls and breaks, then panned it about 45 left and added another different beat with rolls and breaks and pannned it about 45 right. After that I ran them through a LFO so when played on a system there is a tremendous amout of low end....almost too much:D

i wasnt sure which one??..so il istened to " the power of greatness"..

the bass is huge!!..on phones anyway..
lol..i love that offness of the timing...when the little casio part comes in...kinda reminds me of beck....

NEEDS VOCALS...even a sample ...one word...
ok
"the jackal"....thatll work!

gets a little repetative.......maybe if i was high at a rave or whatever....:D

yeah it almost seems like a scratch pad of thoughts you had ..and strung together ...not that its a bad thing i just get that feeling.
ok hate the squealing part before "THE SNAKE"....lol....im on phones and i almost jumped out of my chair...:D

Now that you mention it, I would love to hear this done acoustically.

Well, I am waiting until I get my Davisound in the mail before I go at it.......

I let you know though.
