I just got this mic and honestly it has to be the best mic sound I have ever heard. It's expensive at $1500 cdn, but is well worth the money. They only made 2007 of these limited edition mics last year as a promotional thing but holy fuck it's great. If you can get one I recommend it. Anyone else use this mic?

Not the LTD version, but I have access to some of the older versions of the mic.

Whilst not my first choice for vocals (also have access to C12s and U87s) they are a highly versatile microphone. Have used them as overheads, underneath a snare, on pianos and even as a main pair at classical recitals to name but a few uses. Very useful mic to have in the arsenal - good purchase!

I have tried SM57's and 58's as well as some barringer mics and lower quality AKG's. I have heard the sound from a few higher end mics at different studio's (not sure what the names are) but I still have not heard much that will compare to the quality and multi-use ability of this mic.

Well, if you're used to Behringers and sm58's, then I can certainly understand your enthusiasm. :D

Otherwise, yea, they're really good mics. Not sure if I'd go apeshit over 'em, but they'll do the job.

This here is a picture of the BEST BRATWURST AND ONION HOTDOG EVER!!!

I ate it last year at the Ethnic Food fair downtown.
It's a shame I had to eat it though - because everything else - for all of you shmucks too - is downhill now.

Damn good microphone. Best ever? I don't believe there is such a thing.

Did you need to be so demeaning to this poor fellow? He’s obviously just invested in a new mic, and likes it, should we heckle him or should we be happy for him?

So Corporate Kemp enjoy your mic :D

Know where to get sound effects?

I appreciate you allowing me to bask in the glow of my new mic!! Any idea's on where I can get some sound effects to add to my songs? Not effects for the tracks but sounds for the background of the music.

Thanks

I was thinking of getting one of those suckers

I have a pretty big collection of microphones .... use them mostly for voice overs. I like certain ones for certain effects. My favorite .. for my voice at least .. is the Rode NTK .... Freaken think sizzles .... Gives voices a sensuous quality .. like your tonsils are having oral sex with each other :)

On the other hand ... the old Sony Lavalier ECM 55 microphones have an intimate quality .. when used in close proximaty ... that's pretty neat ...

The Shures .... Neuman (China based / Studio, etc) wannabees are all great ... and sometimes a 25 dollar radio shack lavalier can add presence to certain voices ......

But I can't wait to get my hands on an AKG C414 II.
I see them on ebay ... some weeks new for $689 ... some weeks
like now .. the dealers want 999. bucks (same dealers .. same mic).

I have a C414 B-ULS which is not the exact same mic but I have to agree with the OP. It is one of the best mics I have ever used. It has tons of clean detail with just enough brightness on the high end to give most sources you would normally boost in that range a presence that requires no eq. It has a depth of sound that, along with the variable polar patterns, make it one of the most versatile mics I have owned.

Big love to the 414!
