I was at a music store to elderly instruments for those of you who live in Michigan and checked out a few bass set-ups.

I picked up a awesome looking lime-green Musicman bass and plugged it into a bass Pod. I couldnt believe how good it sounded. Those of you who have a bass Pod, I would like to know what bass youre playing through and what kind of results youre getting. Everyone should take the time to check out this set up!

For what it's worth, the bass player from an old band of mine uses a Peavey Rudy Sarzo model (no, he's not an 80's metal guy) through the bass POD. He loves the tones he gets. He also liked the tone of my Ibanez 5 string through an ART Phat Boy pedal.

I play a Fender Jazz Bass through the Bass Pod. I'm not the person to ask about bass sounds because I've only been playing for one year and I don't have much experience with bass equipment.

When I practice I play through a 350-watt P.A. that's in my studio. When I record, it's usually just the Bass Pod straight into my Akai DPS16 recorder. Sometimes I run it through an ART Tube Channel (preamp, compressor, EQ) and it sounds phat.

One of the great features is the LA-2A compressor model- just turn one knob and it adds punch and size. The reviews said that the effect is pretty close to the LA-2A ( which is quite expensive). I like the distortion effects too. The Big Muff and Rat both can give you a big, aggressive sound. The Bass Pod has two outputs. One is the amp simulation and the other is a direct out (DI) that is a raw signal. You can use both outputs simultaneously and then mix them anyway you want. The DI adds definition to the sound.

All I have for a bass amp is a small 20watt Kustom. Scared to run this Ibanez through my VS265. I wanted an effects board anyway, so I tried the bass through a RP2000 I just got.

Now, I'm not a bass purist. It's just another recording tool for me, but man! I had a ball tweakin' settings and trying different effects. This is a cheap bass (EDB600), but it sure cleans up nicely with little EQ and some flange. Inspiring!

Must have more Power!:D

Bruce,

Everything Godin makes is sweet.

I'd LOVE to have an LGX..... you lucky stiff!

I guess I'll just have to settle for playing my Acousticaster for now... (sniff, sniff).

my bass setup is pretty simple: Peavy Foundation thru a Zoom 506II..

I'm primarily a guitar player... so I don't really know how my bass rates with the pros.. but it sounds fantastic (especially with new strings) and plays very smoothly..

and when I bought the Zoom, I was pleasantly surprised to find the sound I was searching for right there on the second preset.. the one right after that fit nicely in the scratch mixes I was working on.. so I haven't really tried out the other sounds yet..

oh yeah I forgot.. I've got a Peavy bass amp too.. don't know if I'll need it anymore...

Tried the POD. It's a good box. I play a Warwick Streamer Stage1 for live shows. I've had much better luck with the Sans Amp Bass Driver. They cost about the same. The Warwick's a four, but I've had similar results with Ken Smith and Stingray 5's. Check it out!

Not being a real bass player, I gots a question: What do those fifth and sometimes sixth strings get tuned to?

Anybody ever played one of those silicon string machines? Whats that sound like?

Not sure about the how, much less the why.

My guess is that people who could never get cured of saying "bass guitar" instead of the proper "electric bass" decided to add two more strings so they would finally be right.

Some lunatic I know bought one of those Conklin seven-string monstrosities. When someone figures that thing out, send me a postcard.

The DeArmond Ashbory bass? No, but with DeArmond going away, I wouldn't think to get one. Might have to use rubberbands or something for strings in about six months.

what the heck???!!!

I also saw a really small bass guitar with rubber strings, what the heck is that about??

......i was scared to play... ..

That was the Ashbory bass we were discussing.

When you make sense out of it, explain it to me.

The lower string is tuned to "B". The higher string is tuned to "C"

I tune my 5-string with a low B.

Im new to bass, what is the normal tuning low to high for a four string?

the ashbory is pretty cool, although it does sound "different" to say the least. I can't really say much about it since I hadn't much time to play it, it was in a shop.

as for tunings, most of the time I see 5-strings tuned as BEADG, occasionally I see EADGC

I have a six string bass that I tune BEADGB (kinda like a detuned guitar)
