Hello,

I am a new member, old guy, musician all my life, attempting to put together studio in my computer. I have a Dell Dimension 8200, Pentium 4 1700MHz,1.66GHz, 512 MB, 40 Gig mem, Soundblaster Live Value card, Behringer Eurotrack MX1604X, and Behringer TRUTH B2031 monitors. I run output from card to mixer "tape in", and from there to speakers. I did not figured out how to go from mixer to card "in" yet without problems. My software are win XP home, Sonar 2.2 XL, Reason, fruity loops and i will use Pevey DPM C8 as my midi controller. I would also like to lay some base tracks myself. I also have a BOSS DR Rhythm DR660.

My problem is that i hear everything what is going on in my computer. My track wheel movement, my hard drive, ny CD noises, It is unacceptable, offcourse.
So, maybe one of you Eagles could give me a hane, and help?

Tech from CREATVE said that I should buy from a retail Soundblaster live 5.1, He thinks that DELL one is not to par.
Any imput will be appreciated.

Blessings

okay,

your PC is fine and your mixer and monitors are good quality so I think it can be said that your soundcard is to blame for the excessive noise. I have the SBlive card and the noise levels are unacceptable for me whilst recording. (pops, buzzes whilst dragging windows around etc etc...)

I'm currently in the process of ordering an Audiotrack Inca88 which offers 8inputs and 8outputs which work simultaneously (providing the correct sequencing software is used, Cubase or Sonar for example) but this is really an entry level card. for better quality, look at the delta1010 or peruse the bbs on this site, there's plenty of info around about these cards.

Hope this helps...

.

Don't listen to anything Creative tells you. Go get a real recording sound card, like someting from MAudio or Echo and quite a few others. Something like this...

what therage! says...

about your input problem... could it be that you're creating a feedback loop ?? (meaning: PC out -> mixer in / mixer out -> PC in and the PC is echoing what's coming in to the PC out???? )

If so, try putting the PC out on a stereo channel of the mixer and mute it while you try to record something with the in.... (if you catch what I mean)

Hope this helps,
Herwig

Thanks, Ded Poet.

That is exactly my problem, eventually I will get the real sound card with just Midi's, and RCA in's and out's. That will fix it for good. Bye bye SB.

Only Noise using MultiTrak Recording

Could this explain why I only get this irritating noise (low hum like fluorescent lights) when I'm using my multi-trak recording software .. but NOT the built in XP sound recorder?

I'm using the stock Compaq sound card right now (no laughing please) - would a better quality sound card fix this problem?

Timm,

You are asking wrong guy. I am just a student here , just as you. But readearlier posting in this tread, and you find the awnser. AbeLowsmoker and THERAGE posted some very usefull stuff there.
