Oh, really? Maybe I just got 1-in-1,000 bad stands.

I've had some bad experiences with the MF stands too. I did a little group buy for the 10 pack. The threads on the connectors between the boom arm and stand on one of them were stripped pretty easily and quickly, making this stand almost worthless. It did have a slightly heavy load on it, but nothing major. The other two I have are still working, so I don't know if this is a design or qc issue. I have a cheap On-stage stand which seems to be of much higher build quality.
For things like stands, you might be able to find deals on Craigslist for them. I got a nice, used K&M tripod boom stand in excellent condition for $25 (as well as a SKB 8 space rack for another $25!)

Yeah, the threads on the telescoping part of my booms are already stripped, and the booms are going. The On-Stage stands have always worked great for me, though. But I'll have to check on Craigslist next time, stands for cheap are always good.
