Ok now that I have done the research and have seen the light on the more expensive firewire based A/D and D/A. I am thinking of 3 models.

The usual suspect:

Maudio Firewire 410
Presonas Firestation
Motu 828 or better the 896

Recording wise I want the best A/D converters but I will only be recording one step at a time.

However live I want to be able to send the signal into my computer and then out to the mixer/PA. I will need at least 2 mics, bass, and guitar. And of course some room for flexiblity would be great:) So need need good D/A, I am leaning toward the 896 simply for the 8 preamps. But it is only gonna be available to me on ebay cant afford it new:)

It is going into a 2.1 amd athlon optimized for audio only. Was using a Duo. 512 ram 40 gig HD.

Let me know which one you think is good:)

Motu, by far. Unless you have an AMD MB. Your in for a challenge if this is the case. The Motu convertors are better than the other ones you have chosen here.

It is an AMD mb its a notebook. I just got the heads up on Motu and will be bale to use it but it will be hit or miss and have to have a lot of tech time so not recommended to go used.

Is presonus really that much worst?
