I recently bought a used Tascam Porta ! guy I bouhgt it from said it is a early 90's model well I want to start demoing some of my songs I laid down the guitar on track 1 bass on track 2 and my drummer on track 3 well I mixed them down on the headset and it sounded like the tracks had been recorded in a air tunnel and I played it later on my car stereo and it sounded better but track 3 was gone no drums at all I havent mixed down on my stereo yet when I do will my drum track be there? And I have a smaller sonic maximizer the 264 model is there anyway I can put it in the mix to boost up the sound? Any help would be much appreciated don't mean to sound like a idiot but I am new to this and have no clue what I am doing

1. Use punctiation. It gets easier to read.
2. You need to mix down to a stereo casette before you can play the song in your car stereo.
3. I don't know what an air tunnel is.
4. Don't worry, nobody knows how to record songs when they start out.

Ok sorry about the punctuation I was in a hurry before and had to post quick. What I meant from air tunnel, was the music was when i took it from the recorder and into the stereo I heard alot of hissing and the music was not as loud as the hissing. Alost sounded like the music was being played behind the hissing. And the other thing was< I have a sonic maximizer, when I go to mix down is there any way I can hook it up to help give the mix more punch?

Yeah, but you need to get rid of the hissing first.
Make sure you have good tapes, and make sure you record with the highest level possible, and make sure you have the noise reduction turned on, and if you have a choice of two speeds on the porta, use the highest one.

That should keep the noise manageble.

What's up PERKZILLA.

Yeah, what regebro told you was correct.

1) make sure your TAPE HEADS are clean.

2) record @ the higher speed.

3) use type TYPE II tapes.

4) do not use tapes that are longer than 90 minutes.

5) record at the highest level before distortion occurs.

6) mare sure NR is ON.

The reason why you could not hear TRACK 3 (and TRACK 4) is because you didn't MIX DOWN to an external tape deck.

The Tascam records an plays TRACK 1-2-3-4 in the same direction L to R.

But....

Your car or home tape deck play only two (2) TRACKS in one direction (i.e. TRACK 1-2, L to R).

If, you would have turned the cassette over, it would have played TRACK 3 in REVERSE out of the RIGHT side of your speakers.

Because, the tape deck can only read two (2) track at a time, once you flipped the tape over it would have been able read TRACKS 3-4, but they would have sounded like they were in reverse.

So, when you create music with a cassette 4-track you must mix it down to a regular cassette deck before you can listen to it on your car stereo.

Now, in using the sonic maximizer....

It depends on which instruments you want to give a fuller sound.

If you want to give the whole mix a better sound then I would put it in between the OUTS of the Tascam and the INS of your mixdown device.

I hope this helps you.

Peace. :)
