I have an MBOX. Do I need another PREAMP?

Haven't got the mic yet as I am researching the best options. Interested in seeing what you guys think about just using the Preamp that comes with the MBOX 1. Is there a particular type of mic you guys know of that works well with just the MBOX? The mic is for vocals. Or is there a noticeable benefit in having another preamp?
 
apparently the first mbox has a decent amp from focusrite so i think i'm good.
 
The answer is probably try recording something and then see what you think of the quality, then come back and ask again if you think it's not good enough..

There are many variables affecting recorded quality, pre-amp quality is just one, but at noobie level there are often bigger fish to worry about...

Should be good....

I used just the M-box pre-amps for a long time by themselves for vocals and acoustic guitar, and they worked fine. Depending on what you're trying to accomplish, demos, just for fun...? It's always good to get and use all the best gear you can, but using what you have to your best ability is what it's really about. I used the M-box with an LE set-up to write and demo songs, then when I got an HD set-up I recorded for "real" on that. Sorry if my reply is a little long-winded, but your question kinda needed me to explain my answer. So, long story short(too late), you don't "need" a separate pre-amp, but one would probably help you to make "better" recordings. I would suggest acquiring an assortment of mics before spending money on a pre-amp.

I hear you. I wont be mixing as I will be sending the dry vocals to my buddy whose been doing it for 20 years now.

I will go through a few mics then see about the amp. I my mixer guy says what I send him great then I'm good. I've recorded for years with him, but now I'm 4 hours away from him...so I need to record at my place then get the vocals over to him to mix.
