I used AUDACITY...it used to work just fine, but now, when i record, i sing insync with the music(Instrumental).... when i listen back, either my voice or the music is delayed! like..they dont match up AT ALL.

Does anyone know why this happens?

Not familiar with Audacity but until you get it all figured out you could just manually move everything back in alignment.

I had the same problem when I used Audacity. I also had issues where the second track I recorded would randomly drift out of sync with the first track, even though there were no timing issues when I recorded it. I spent hours going through my tracks and bringing it all in sync. Then I bought Ableton Live, and deleted Audacity. Problem solved :)

Latency

Hi, PINKbunny:

I have used Audacity for quite some time. You have a latency problem which might be solved by adding more RAM to your computer or upgrading your sound card.

I had problems until I increased my RAM to 1.5 gigs. Problem solved for about $80.00. I have the basic sound card that came with my EMachines CPU that I bought 4 years ago.

When this problem arises, you can use the time shift tool to realign the tracks.

Also, look at the Audacity tutorials and the Audacity forum for more tips.

I had the same problem with Audacity a long time ago when I recorded with a computer mic through my stock soundcard. Came a long way since them. I'd try reaper maybe?

Just a quick point... the fun thing about Audacity is that it runs on lots of different systems. In fact most of its install base is going to be on Linux, since it's one of the few decent wave editors around for it (but that's a rant for another day). So saying 'try Reaper' isn't that helpful if he isn't running a 32-bit Windows system ;)
There will be a Mac version apparently but it's not ready yet.

Thinking about it, since his problem with Audacity is probably some kind of interaction between the OS and the application, it might be a good idea if he told us what OS he is using...

If he were running linux reaper is an option as well...the mac version, not so much yet

Really? Neat. Do you have a link for that?
The only mention I've heard of a linux version so far was someone requesting it when the Mac version was announced. I haven't yet had a good experience running audio software under emulation...

check your sampling rate

i find that my soundcard has a native sampling rate of 48kHz and if i set the sample rate at 44.1kHz to match CD standard, my tracks would go out of sync....

It isnt a linux version, but the Jacklab guys have made wine-asio work REALLY well audio specifically and have made a pretty big deal about running reaper on it. Wine-Asio gives you a lot of plusses that werent around in wine. Theres a few videos on youtube from the linux community about running reaper in ubuntu
