I have a guitar pedal with a MIDI out, I want to use it to trigger samples in Cubase.

Hi,
I have a boss GT6 guitar pedal with a MIDI out and I have the pedal hooked up to Cubase 6 and am getting a MIDI signal whenever I press one of the pedals. What I want to do is convert the MIDI data to, lets say a note... like C1 or something. From there I would have a sample loaded up in groove agent one that would be played whenever this foot pedal was pressed. My problem is that I have no idea how to take the MIDI signal and reroute it to my desired note. Is there an easy way to do this in Cubase?

That sounds like it's sending MMC, SysEx, MIDI patch changes or the like rather than MIDI notes. I don't know if that pedal can convert audio to MIDI, but I'm sure your manual says something useful on the subject. Most guitar MIDI setups that I've seen use a special pickup on the guitar to generate the MIDI.

I don't think I explained myself properly. What I want to do is use this guitar pedal which sends MIDI out into my laptop and from there it would trigger a sample that would get played in Cubase 6. I figured there must be an easy way to send the MIDI data to a "note", as I am able to control various parameters within my softsynths such as max/min volume, but I can't figure out how to actually play a note in the softsynth.. if that makes any sense?
 
Yeah, that's normally what MIDI note data does, trigger sounds (sampled or synthesized). I'm sure there's some way to convert whatever your pedal is sending to get what you want but I can't offer you a tested solution.

There are a couple of programs for PC that may be part of the solution: MIDI-OX and MIDI Yoke. MIDI Yoke basically acts like a MIDI patch bay in your computer. MIDI can be routed from one piece of software to another. MIDI-OX seems to be a multipurpose tool that may be part of a solution for you. Perhaps you can use MIDI-OX to convert the signals your pedal is sending to MIDI notes that can be routed to Cubase via MIDI Yoke and there assigned the sample.
