I have 6 channels for the drums, where should I place the mics?

I have a 8-channel Portable studio and we are a three piece band so I use one channel for the bass, one for a lined guitar and 6 for the drums when I do the base-recording.
Then I transfer all of it to Cool Edit Pro where I record more guitars, vocals, synths and finally mix.

I'm not sure how I should put the drum-mics to get the best possible result.

I have a 4-track pre-mixer and microphones are no problem.

Thanks for any help!!

kick - one channel
snare - one channel
2 or 3 toms - stereo spread across 2 channels
2 overheads - stereo spread across 2 channels

hi-hat will be caught either by overheads or by snare...

A couple of Audio Technichas, and like 10 cheap Dynamic AKG mics.

But I can borrow up to 6 more Audio Technichas from a friend of mine, when we're recording something serious.
And they're pretty good condensor-mics.

When I record with the AKG mics, which drums should I mic them with anyway.
