if it were not for reverb you would not be able to hear shit ,its every where seriously! between youre ears and your speakers to hate reverb is to hate sound. use of reverb is something i could not possibly say yay or nay to cause its so varied ,for me the worst thing was the destruction of great live analogue drum sounds when some evil prick invented that gated reverb that made almost everthing in the 80s sound like shit/phil collins
 
In the 80´´s , you couldn´t think in a mix without a lot of reverb (and compression) ...

Nowadays, in a lot of examples , it´s almost the opposite (zero reverb)...

But, what about the "middle" (where maybe the thuth is?)

Jack Nitzsche used to say that reverb is like garlic. You can't have too much ;)
 
Guys, can you name me some good sounding reverbs out there? Don't care what the pricetag on it is, i just need one that will be effective for me. I'm doing singing vocals, so i need a reverb that can be sweetly harmonized with the vocals.
 
Yep I have to agree and be in the middle as well. You can use to much if you notice it. I remebmer some 80's rock bands that would kill their acoustic music with reverb. Faster Pussycat comes to mind for some reason?

My Morning Jacket's album Z is drowned in heavy syrupy reverb and it sounds great.
 
For live, I hate reverb on anything really. I really hate it on my vocals and it doesn't lend itself well to my style of guitar. However, in the lab environment of the studio, it has its merits. I have to admit my addiction to slap echo on guitar and vox. I want to sound like the big bopper.

I hate BAD reverb.
There's a difference. Reverb serves its purpose - the problem is that many people don't use it judiciously - they will just slap the exact same reverb on everything, and have it too loud, and then you just wind up with this low mid muck that clutters the mix.

I hate reverb on Bass....it just mars the definition of the bass sound, and lessens the impact that I like from the Bass guitar. I'll put up room mic's wherever the bass cabinet is, rather than putting reverb on it - if the bass player/band wants some more "space" in the bass sound.

It is tough to judge how much reverb you really have. So after you aplpy some reverb to a track, wait a couple hours, or even a day or two, and then listen to it again... you will be surprised!
 
saying "i hate reverb" is roughly tantamount to saying "eq sucks" or "compression blows"
