well, i hate doing this, but i'm gonna promote my band and get some feedback on our music.

www.still-liferock.cjb.net - our website, we are changing the name soon.

http://www.geocities.com/bledonthewire/New.WMA

just right click-save target as on that file to download our demo. its unfinished and was recorded the first practice we wrote the song, but thats the only thing we really have. next practice we will provide a more finished product, but if you want, tell me what you think of what we have so far. the recording isnt great by the way, but its not bad for only useing 1 mic to record a whole room.

I'm listening

Next time move that mic away from the drum kit a bit more.
Sounds like a nice mood piece in the floyd style.
Are you guys gonna rent a small PA and sing or what?
Is there a bass player?

Anyway, welcome if this is your first post.
Hang out and learn, this is the place.

thanks for your reply. yeah we only recorded it with my guitarist Jason and me and recorded a keyboard part and played it back on the keyboard and we played over it. our bassist wasnt there that day, and we're not really sure what we are doing about vocals, we might just add an effect over some vocals that way it wont matter if they are really bad or not. no one in the band can sing. and i agree about the drums being loud, i've solved that problem by moving the mic across the room as far from the drums as i can.

Can't Sing???????

You got a mouth and know how to breathe right?
IF you can answer YES to this Q, then you need to start singing at your EARLIEST opportunity.
Seriously, it makes you a better musician in the long run.
And.................Have FUN:D

Okay, I don't mean to be an ass here, but lose the pop-ups and other ads, and maybe I'll listen. Seriously, I'm not trying to be difficult, but, as far as I know, we're mostly people who record music in our bedrooms, offices and toilets. If you have sponsors or advertisers on your web site, I'm not sure you qualify.

Fine, I'm just a junior member, and maybe I don't know all the rules -- as evidenced by my last post -- but if you're going to be a home recorder, put your songs on NoWhereRadio or MP3.com or your own web site without pop-ups and sponsors. Anything else seems a bit hypocritical.

(What, am I made of gasoline?)

*sigh*

again...

I checked out the song called.........................................

"New Song". Nice title!

The musical ideas you guys put out are kinna nice. I like the mellow groove that you play.

On the area of sound mix and over all quality, the sound is very distorted and grating on the ears, though my ears are shot right now from being in the studio all day working on a remake of an old tune I wrote 18 years ago.

I am not sure if it was the mic that was too close to the drum kit or if you just floored the meters when you tracked them and didn't bother to check them as things were going along. It's kind of a shame in that the performance was quite good.

Perhaps a re-do of at least the drums would go a long way toward making the song more listen-able.

About the pop ups; I didn't see any because I have a simple and completely free pop up stopper program supplied by the fine folks at Google Incorporated, bringing you quality web searches since 1999. .......oops! that sounded like an add. Sorry.

Cheers! :)

whoa, recording is way too hot. Nice to hear a real kit. If any one that knows anything about micing a kit says anything listen close, this sounds like an overheads only mix to me. Pretty touch to record something with one mic in one take. If you're strapped for cash check out Audacity or some other freeware sw that'll let you multitrack to get some stereo spread in there.

I'm a big fan of spacerock, this had a nice feel to it, needs to be cleaned up alot.

thanks for everyone's replies.....

as for the website....im only 17, and have no cash and when we change the band name im putting our stuff on mp3.com/dmusic/musicbuild etc type site, we just have to decide on one and im gonna get my friend to host my site to remove those damn popups, i just cant help it right now, im moving it to a different server in the mean time. anyway, as for the recording....one mic, no cash once again, but im building slowly into getting more stuff to record with. until i get better things i've been messing around with positioning with the one good Sony mic i have to pick up less of my kit. this was just to see if people liked what we were doing, getting different opinions is good for my self esteem, heheh.....

and i've been learning to sing, but since i play the drums, its difficult to mic that, but we'll figure that out when time comes to it. but thank you for everyone's input on this, i've been happy with the response so far.

and my band isnt sponsored or signed to any label as you've probably assumed, the website is hosted by Geocities, until i can afford my own server, i'll have to figure out a site that hosts with out pop-ups. anyone know of any free sites without them, the ones i've found all have limitations.
