Well.. I've been away for a while, a little discouraged, a little busy, but it appears I have become a singer, I guess I got pretty good at it. Just wanted to drop in, let everyone know I'm still alive. And introduce myself to the singers forum.

I took a few months of singing lessons, and took what I could from them, and I'm moving on to personal study, because in my not so humble opinion, my vocal coach didnt have very nice vocals.

Blah Blah. Too much coffee. Ranting. Tacosalad.

Right on!
So how did you improve your vocals? What were some of the things you worked at or found helpful from your teacher?

Inquiring minds want to know....

Welcome back demensia.

Am planning to also start a thread within the next few days on
"self studying" BTW.

Fortunate enough to know of some excellent study aids...

Well I never said I was any good!
Teacher dude made me sing opera and puff the magic dragon until i was ready to punch him in the face.

Now I've just been using the excercises on Roger Loves book, and studying on my own imitating the vocalists that I like..

Layne Staley
Maynard from Tool
Brandon from Incubus
Chino from Deftones
Scott Weiland from STP
Thom York from Radiohead

In imitating those guys, Im looking to find my own style.
These guys just grabbed me and said "Hey you can sing" so Im not gonna argue with them.

Welcome back demensia.
Thanks man, just make sure Csus doesnt try to touch me.

Yeah, Love's book is first rate IMHO.

An essential classic book is "Caruso's Method of Vocal Production",
by P. Mario Marafioti. The language is a bit flowery, as it was written about 70+ years ago, but it's filled with great advice/info.

And it runs under... $10 new!
