I've never been happy with DI - ing guitars myself. I've had some good results with a samsamp driver for my bass. But amp modeling etc just does not do it. I have a old Randall practice amp, i' don't know what they're like nowadays but they're not a forerunner in my must-have amps list. What kind of sound are you wanting to achieve? What guitars do you use? Style of music etc?

Your generally wanting an amp with a lower wattage for miking aswell - 100 Watts is an awful lot. Generally with tube amps you get a better sound from miking up a smaller amp and driving it just before it distorts - that's where the "warmth" kicks in, than having a power stack at a very low volume. That's why people spend money on attenuators which lower the volume between the amp and speaker - they are wanting the sound from the amp that they usually get when turned right up.

Ok the second reply i didnt understand haha. But anyways im trying to go for a metal kind of tone. Like Metallica or something. I like that 80's speed metal kind of sound but i want it with a modern upgrade. Today's tones are really clear and warm,Godsmack is a perfect example, and so is Staind. Real heavy and thick but all it needs is a 80's throw back in it and it will be perfect for me.
Did I say too much? hahaha

A mesa amp may suit you in contour mode, the best idea is to go down to your nearest retailer and try some amps. Try something that is above your budget, remember you can always get is SH of ebay. State the exact sound your looking for & i have a general rule about trying equipment out, never buy first , go home think about it etc look at online shops ebay etc, you may find what you like cheaper on the net.
