I got so tired of paying $150 for bass strings

Master Baiter
that I went out and bought some weedeater line and strung up a bass with it. They sound like gut strings, though the E lacks some mass for a full tone. Gauges are .155, .130, .105 and .095. Takes a few days for them to stretch out.

They don't take a bow too well, but maybe after getting them impregnated with rosin it will get better. Or I could hair a bow with grass. :)

Total cost about $40 for about 20 sets of strings.

Yeah, after while I just can't get all the dead skin cells out of the windings with alcohol and they lose treble output.

Cheap wad.

This thread is a good example of some of the crap people want us to record in the studio... and we tell them, put some strings on that bass.

I know what you mean. You put on a good set of strings, and some of the studios make the bass sound like it was strung with weedeater line.
