My Presonus Firepod came over the weekend so I recorded this as a test. I went to a Soilwork concert on Friday and it inspired me to record some metal. I was jamming on drums and laid down guitars, bass, and vocals (or growls in this case) over it. It goes from metal to me making dumb noises to a pop punk thing. This is my 7 second vocal debut - I hope you like it!

Well, that was 1 minute of my life I'll never get back.

Your equipment sounds supurb bud, so no problems there. A few arm farts, an 80 year old woman vomiting, or even a cat thumping around in a clothes dryer would have helped make the song more marketable.

way better than my first shot with the Firepod. What other equipment did you use?

The drums are Tama Starclassics made of birch wood. The mic setup was:

snare: Shure SM57
kick: Shure Beta 52
overheads: Oktava MK012 x2
three toms: Audix F10 x2, Audix F12 (floor tom)
hi-hat: Audix F15

The guitar amp was a 100 watt Line 6 Spider amp miced with an SM57. I think the digital sound of this amp is masked by the warmth of the Firepod's preamps. The bass was recorded direct. The vocals were recorded with a 57.

Now comes the fun part as with any other equipment upgrade: tinkering with things for months to make them sound up to par!

FattMusiek-

I caught Soilwork on tuesday so Im assuming you saw them on the tour with Dark Tranquillity and Hypocrisy. I have to say that I was sad to see Dark Tranquillity, the band who is basically credited with creating the Gothenburg Melodic Death metal scene opening up for a band who got their start Stealing there sound. If out of nothing but respect I think Soilwork should have been opening for them but thats a whole other rant. Don't get me wrong I love early Soilwork but its just a shame how things like that work.
OK so here we go, new gear is always fun. The sounds are pretty clean from what I can tell (listening on headphones). I like the guitar tones alot. The drums are a little "flat" sounding but for just a rough go, this sounds pretty good. Would definitely have liked to hear more developed material but I realize you were just testing out the new toys. Have fun, sounds good man.

please dont try and tell me that the drums arnt sampled. Because i wont believe you. Every hit sounds the same with the snare and the kick. dont know about the toms because you dont hear them much. But my ears tell me they are too. Even the hi hat and cymbals sound sampled.

but whatever.

Sounds real enough to me.
Im glad youre stoked about your new gear Matt.
Youre one of those guys who could somehow make a good recording with virtually nothing.

Hats off.

I realize it's only a gear test, but you've got a hell of a noise floor.

Crisp sounding stuff, though...

Line 6 stuff gets a lot of negative around here, but it sure kicks my ampegs arse!!! Not too shabby...

When do we get to hear the full length release?

if that's a drum machine you got robbed cause it dosn't exactly have the best time :D

really, soundes good
should be plenty of fun

I had a listen to some of the ones on soundclick....pretty good...the Harmony song I liked real well but it was in a haze of static..mabey just my cruddy puter speaker..... ...anyway, good go... :)

i didnt say drum machine. i just said drum samples. either triggered or sound replaced. it sounds like he played it to me but that doesnt sound like a natural sounding kit in a room to me. Every hit of the kick and snare especially sounds like the exact same tone and timbre to me.

I of course could be wrong but it doesnt sound real to me.

Your ears are mistaken. Thanks for the reply though!

Would you mind elaborating on that, Rokket?
