Hi, I hope everyone's well...

Please let me know what you think about this song/mix etc... I wrote and recorded it today. There is a glitch involving the kick drum at the start before the guitar comes in, but that appears to have been introduced in the process of making the song a .wma file. I would have made an mp3 but my maker program is on the fritz right now.

Anyway, if my big sales pitch didn't scare you away (LOL) here is the link:

It's called Let Go of My Heart. Chicks man, I tell ya...
:)

thanks,
David

The WMA file stops playing for me in both Media Player and WinAmp at around 30 to 40 seconds.

New Link

Sorry about that. The .WMA file played fine until I downloaded from my site. That's weird. Anyway, I got my MP3 encoder working again. Here is the new link:

Thanks for the listen,
David

I think you need a strong bassline to give this some direction. As is it, seems to meander.

I like the chorus riff (the first riff one hears). But the verse part is unsatisfying. Both guitars just sorta shift back and forth on the same couple notes. Varying one of the guitars would probably add more life to it. And more bass is definitely needed.

Did you pan the snare to the right a tad??
If you did you should put it backin the center.

Guitar lines here are o.k.'ish..
Vox are pretty outta tune at times.

Cool

Thanks for the comments everyone. It's mostly reconfirming my gut feeling about the song.

Yes, the snare is a bit off center. Was there a particular reason why you like it centered? Does it just sound better to you?

The guitar is really simple, but I don't really call myself a guitar player. Honestly, I have no idea how all this music stuff started. I think I bought a computer sampler for my old Amiga 500 so that I could make sound effects for the video games I always tried to make. LOL And here we are.

And a bassline? Hmm...a friend told me about those. I'll look into it.

Seriously though, this is all great feedback. Thanks much, guys...

hm, i made a comment earlier and it must have either not gone through or turned up elsewhere :D

just wanted to say i disagree about the arrangements, i think they're fine! you're not far off the mark at all. You need a top-notch performance and a top-notch mix, but the song is good, the feel is good. Smashing Pumpkins cum Dinosaur Jr cum Sonic Youth.... i like :)

Hello to Sweden

Thanks for the compliments, Madmush. Yeah, it's hard for me to escape the Pumpkins influence here in Chicago. LOL

I've got to check out your stuff when I get home. I'm at work now, and in a land of cubes it's hard to rock out and still keep your job.

This top-notch mix and performance stuff, where does one buy such things?
:)

thanks again...

haha, i had no idea.... pumpkins "today" video is one of my faves.... i don't suppose the bit when he's driving the Mr Whippy van in the desert was shot in chicago?

"I've got to check out your stuff"

please do :)
i haven't yet ventured into the more ambient style, my songs rely heavily on the classic "rulebook", way of doing it.... and i strive to vary the styles of my recordings.... hopefully you'll really like one or two! Eventually i'll make a few songs that are a little more about the performance than the hooks.... i need more blues

cheapest way is probably to do some drugs that makes it all sound perfect..... ahem.

Speaking of the Pumpkins...

Billy Corgan's solo album comes out this Tuesday. I'm loooking forward to that, since anything involving Billy comes out sounding very Pupkinesque (Zwan, etc...)
