I don't know what to make of this

this mp3 eliminated all my thoughts... they have been assimulated to Borg..

drums?

new gtr pattens?

understandable vocals?

bridge?

solos?

quick idea on a sketch pad with "cool" sounding human gutterings scattered on top for flavor?

I think it is heavy duty man!Very clever ideas you have going there.
The vox need to be louder and that second guitar should sound as good as the first.tell me how you are doing that first guitar,it is a very heavy sound.I love it!!!!

I just listened again, and I must say,you are getting some highly
impressive guitar tones on this recording! The beginning is tone heaven. The tone you have going works well on the single note stuff, but sucks for power chords.
dude,if you put as much thoght into all of the musical parts as you did the opening guitar, you will excelll!

I agree

  • Idea is cool

  • Needs something in the percussion dept. to tie it together
  • Guitar tone is cool, but for 1 part only. Maybe two if the second is a harmony of the first a-la Maiden/Priest.
  • What the hell are you saying? :D

Thanks shep. The first guitar is done in two sets. One set of tracks clean and one set distorted. Everything was played one handed to negate the pick attack, so i had to set everything very sensitive when recording.

the power chord guitars are kind of eq'ed like teeth with the other guitars \/ /\ \/ /\ . Maybe i gave the "good teeth" to the first guitar? What do you think i should do to them to spruce em up? i wanted to get them to "chatter" if I could.

I took your advice and beefed the vox.

Thanks mix. Yeah there are 2 tracks of kick in the song. When i heard it i opted not for traditional song structure so i skipped trying to add any additional parts. I was going to tack a solo on the end but decided not to.

thanks mbrane. I'll play around with some other tones for that second guitar, maybe i'll see if i can fit some more of it's lows back into the mix. I might've scooped that stuff too much perhaps.

I'm missing something like an 'explosive' part - this tune gives me a feeling of a neverending loop - interresting main idea(kinda floyd-ish), but it needs more alternation

cheers

True dat, but I like what you're doing here with the gtr's...a lot. I wanna hear some bad to the bone screaming vocals tho...it cry's out for it :D ..no really, don't you think?:) . Love what ya got going here...is this a done deal already? Just wondering man, I liked it!*****

David

I hear ya fresh...

I had some scream vox in those takes but i cut em just not right. Got some ideas? :)

Nothings a done deal, if you have any ideas lemme know

Komp

I'm listening and reading the words at the same time.
i like the whole buildup approach on this and the lyrics
are really quite good.
You have a good idea there I feel it just needs to be
stretched out at this point.

Keep it up man

I'm with groovejunkie.....while it sounds like a very good starting point for a tune......it doesn't really develop beyond that.
Personally, I'd like to hear some percussion and a good drivin' bass line come in ......then build from that.
But there are many different ways you could go.....

chaotic drums and trashy percussion bashing away! Playing off beats (quarter note triplets) and big toms under the power chords - that's what I'm hearing.

Very cool start to something. Could use some percussion though. Great tones and cool rhythms. I don't hear any problems with the power chords.

Hey Khomp,
...very cool stuff indeed. I fully agree w/ the percussion recommendations mentioned above. CHEMICAL BROS!! Im hearing some "block rockin beats" in this. If you do alot of looping, I think there is a chemical bros. loop cd out w/ a bunch of stuff on it that would fit the bill here perfectly.

very cool stuff man,
g

btw: yeah, those guits at the beginning smoke!!

Im glad I got to read the posts and your reply. I was really diggin to figure out how you got that much dynamics without hearing an outside attack on the notes. Cool deal....You musta tracked it where you could breathe on the strings and resonate em.

Hey guys, thanks for the listens.

Yeah i need to expand my percussion options. I think i only have 2 sets of wavs right now but at least i can separate them to different tracks, something i couldn't do before.

The strings were so sensitive i had to assign my right hand to mute duty otherwise there would've been a jumbled mess.

pretty cool.. the vocal sound is a little harsh sounding against the backdrop..

to me it's like listening to a song with the drum track muted..

Listening... clean... building... when the bass comes in, it begins to kick ass....

Not sure the mix keeps clarity when the guits move out to the wide-pan. In fact, it's a bit cloudy. Not bad, though. Drums would have trouble punching through those guits without some large EQ cuts, though (400 Hz - 1KHz)

It's like Dave Mustane doing a Trent Reznor impression (vocally).

Sounds like an unfinished masterpiece waiting for drums and a mix. Not bad.

Chad

Khompy, man, you're a FREAK!!! I gotta party with you, dude...

I totally dug this. Totally. Really intense.

A bit of mud when the chords started changing over the pedal tone in the bass - either playing with the EQ or the guit voicings would solve that.

Might be fun to play with some more effeccts on the vox, too. Or not. Anyhow, way cool.

Daf

Thanks very much for the listens and feedback guys, much appreciated. Hell yah let's party, anyone making it to the jamfest? Pass me some jack!

There are actually 2 tracks of kick throughout, but i wanted them to get swallowed by the guitar so you can't even hear them in the mix when you get to the chorus i think i may have overdone it. There would be a big scoop required to get into snares and such.

Nice buildup there.. Your vocals sound like a cross between Dave Mustaine and Roger Waters to me. Really cynic sounding. In a good way of course :D I really like your hypnotic guitar-riff. I wish the song would take on a next level instead of fading out. Perfect for some thumping drums and groove. I'd imagine this working very well as an album opener. At the beginning I wasn't sure what to think but this is really good in its simplicity.
