i wasn't really impressed with the presets it had. how the hell does swizz beats get those sounds? will the giga sampler and giga orchestra be a wise investment to expand the triton's sounds?
I thought Swiss Beats sound was mosty Korg... What did he switch to a MOTIF in the last year or so? Anyways... Boards like the TRITON and MOTIF have some serious synth engies under the hood... With a little bit or knowledge and some time on your hands you can create some really nice shit. I'm not even talking about a regular piano or some shit... I'm talking about some seriosly sick sound.
On the soundset side... I suggest you load and learn your TRITON to the fullest. They got a Orchestral expansion board for the Triton as well as some other expansion boards... Then you got the option of using the internal sampler to load up some shit. I don't really see the need to use the TRITON with anything else myself...
i read in one of the issues of xxl or source, i'll have to research it because i have it here somewhere, but it had him in front of the motif.
yo, Hi_D_Ho_Man, i just wasn't impressed with the presets. i expected to hear some phat horns, and effects. i was just expecting to be blown away as soon as i turned it on. i guess i'll have to learn how to tweak something of that calibre. this triton should be here by next friday if it's mailed from colorado by monday. i'm getting impatient so i'm trying to experiment more with this keyboard untill it comes. i have a $200.00 keyboard from radio shack that i have had for a year now, and i only used it's midi once. i was like bump that, i'll just record analog from it. but now i want to learn how to have sounds sent to the keyboard and played from within it. off to do more research.
btw, i know the motif is a kicka@@ board, i guess i should say i was disappointed in (myself) for not knowing how to get what i wanted out of it. what will i need to get my own sounds for the triton, so i can develop my own style? swizz beats rocks the horns and the cow bell, and i hear noone else with the sounds. is it out of respect for him or is that he custom made sounds? i know i'm going to look back on these questions in about a month or two in be like, "damn those were some dumb as questions".
As soon as I got back from Afghanistan I started studying the functions of the motif. I got the 6 model. Dawg, off the top, that hoe is gravy tight.
playing 4 different instruments at the same time, tweaking all kinds of parameters for each instrument in real time until you get that perfect ensemble.
mayne it's hella tight, i dont' know much about the triton...other than everybody in the industry has one. i think it boils down to personal preference, what kinda learning curve you have, what kinda patience you have, and how creative you are........because before me and my guitarist upgraded to the mpc and motif we was flipping Rebirth and a old azz casio joint
to bad i don't have my website up yet so yall can peep it, yall won't be disappointed though
hmmm, do i have to read the manual and be an expert at the motiff to know that i didn't like the presets? would me learning the motif make the (presets) sound better. i know that you have to tweak it to get your own sounds, but i was expecting it to have better presets than my $200.00 radio shack midi keyboard.
i know you invested your money in the motiff and you are on the defensive side, but yo, READ something before you pass judgement. now what that off of my chest, how are things in afghanistan? i just got out the military in december. i'm still here at ft. gordon for a minute though. like 2 weeks after i got out, they started sending people to kuwait. let me check out some of your stuff
Every manufacturer and I guess every keyboard line has a sound of its own. You've just got to find yours. The motif is a great keyboard but it has strengths as well as weaknesses. To me it is best in the electric piano dept. The triton has these big fat sounds. But they can get in the way if you don't know how to use them. Roland has incredable stuff. Just find the one thats right for you.

Very true, i like the strings and e-piano presets on my xv5050 better than on the triton. but i dont care much for the acoustic piano.
on the triton,i like the synth basses, acoustic piano, and vox sounds better
both have a great vairety of synths and pads, and both could use better drum kits. Outside of percussion sounds i really dont use the drum kits at all on either.
I intend to have one synth from each major manufacturer. Next on my list is a Motif rack, then maybe Kurzweil PC2R. I think I'll be satisfied for a while from there(becoming a gear-a-holic)
swizz uses the motif, mpc 4000 now but thats what he say he uses u know every 1 got somethin secret they got sounds from they aint gone speak on to keep they shit unique
but i feel the motif would trade my karma fo it in a sec. and would get it b 4 the triton
Ive had the Motif 6 for a year now and can say Im just starting to appreciate its power. The presets ROB this board at first glance........ If you make a decision over a workstation because of presets and instant gratification I feel sorry for your bad choice. I got the board out of the lack of producers in my area to show love in teaching me and letting me learn so I bought my own and told them to kick rocks...........
The Key is expandability, storage, and tools. I can t say the Motif does everything perfect for me but its damn close......... I have over 30 Custom 127 voice User Banks........ These sounds include Wave Sampled Drums from everywhere and internal treaks of Motif's existing Rom data........ When I get bored I jumble my kits (Custom Orgon, Custom Synths, Custom Dance, Custom Pads, Custom Sound Effects, Custom Sound Scapes etc.... All this + Samples (Just like Mr. MPC) = 900 + sounds 4 elements to each sound, + thousands of tweaks to those combinations (square wave, sawtooth, etc) + 100 + effects to those sounds....... In other words hundreds of thousands of combinations.......... Expandability... Also those llittle Flash cards that come with the Motif are the bomb.... No switching Floppies every two minutes like ole Triton....
okay, you make the motif sound apealing. i just got the triton and it's blowing me away, but i'm so used to doing everything through fruity loops. me and a buddy went half on it. i'm going to be away on buisness for a while so we need to get another board. instead of getting a triton studio to go with the workstation, maybe i'll do more research on the motif. thanks
