................RAINY DAY........:D

Listened to Rainy Day (that was the one right?).

I'm torn, like some of the effects a lot, but most dragged the guitars AWAY from the rest of the song, leaving gaps/holes in the melody...

The drums seem a little too "clean" and up front in the mix. I like the sequencing on them though, pulled off a good punk feel which is hard with punk.

Nowhere radio mucked up twice when listening. Too many users and not enough bandwidth... anway...

Vocals were alright, sounded properly recorded. MP3 quality was there too. It would benefit a lot from some saturation/compression, everything seemed really distant in the mix (except the drums). I usually solve that by setting the RMS to like 12db or so.

pinky:..wow that s more help than i was expecting...thanks thats me playing the drums...yamaha dtexpress drumset...i am lost when it comes to guitar sounds....they always suck...i always just go with it.....

thaks tho for listening

Oh, well in that case, it could have been tighter :p

j/k

nice work on the other track too... just need to tighten up some of the production skillz to go with the talent... this is the best place on the net we can be to do that :)

Jamal, I had to post something in case there's anybody who still thinks we're the same person...or cares. Ready? Here goes:

It REALLY sounds like Green Day.

Long Live Slightly Heavier Than Average Pop!!!!

there's a kind of weird transition from the begining effect section to the normal cut........i like the effect, it just isn't a smooth transition right now...........i think the main rhythm guitar is a bit heavy on the flanger effect or whatever it is..........i'd try that main rhythm without an effect with a slightly dirty tone.....i don't know, just an idea.........using a flange like that just seems to make for a pretty hollow guitar sound for that kind of rhythm playing.........vocals are good, harmonies are nice.........that's about it

I thought the song was good, and the transition was interesting.. maybe you could smooth it out even more though..

I think there is too much effect on the guitar when it kicks in.. It should have been a bit 'thicker'.. The levels are a bit off.. like the guitar should be more in your face, and the drums not soo noticeable.. If nothing else, I would dry off the guitars, raise them in volume, and raise the bass.. Not a bad tune though.. the vocals were good too..

Hey Jamal,
...Hey man, Im listening on my work speakers which suck..... Is there bass in this, if so it really needs to come up. If not.....well you need a bit, damnit :D . The song is great! I like alot.

.......picked bass..... a touch abrasive on the attack.... ...sorry, just thinking out loud :D

Cool song, G

(Im with the heavy Green Day comparison.) .....very cool

you had me going with that low-fi thing in the begining ... :D ...

all the stuff I heard from you has great energy to it... also good sence of production like harmonies and guitar parts coming in and out.

This one seems to be a little skewed to one side. Interesting guitar sound ... hehe... I like the song ... you need to watch the intonation in singing it may cause you to loose some "attitude" but you will gain in "respect" :D ... IMHO

I listened to "one mistake" I think I heard it before, but great tune anyway ...

cheers

jamal buchet,
I wanted to ask you about that line in another song ... "how quarter tastes inside of coffee cup" ... how does it tastes? :) ... I never heard it before ... is that some kind of metaphore or something??? ... thanks

jamal - hey mon.

I liked this one a lot. Nice music. Great harmonies - sounding smooth. Some of the words were real good (the "parting gifts" line comes to mind). Some others were a bit "throw away." Liked the guitar that was panned left. Flanger on it?

One glitch with the high harmony at 2:19. It comes in late and bobbles the note. I'm surprised you let that one go. Personally, I didn't think the ultra-lo-fi part at the beginning added anything to the song.

Real good song though. Liked it lots. trip...

hey all...thanks for listening....

powderfinger:..i CANNOT get a good guitar sound ..they start out fine..but somewhere it all goes wrong.....and that "effect at the very beggining is sooo cheesy i cant even tell you....im embaressed ...lmao....sorry ...:D

B-SAB ...i play drums so i suffer from "why arent the drums the focal point of every song"..syndrom...lmao...and yeah..i know i know guitar sucks....if anyone has a LINE6 AXSYS and would like to point out any of the GOOD sounds i would appreciate it!!!!....please?......beleive me i WANT the guitar to be in yer face i really do.....im just crap at making it sound the way i envision it..

GUERNICA:...thanks man!!!..glad you like it....the (ahem)...bass...is uh....hate to say this my guitar run thru the bass preset ..and i cant play with just my fingers i tried ...and oh boy did it suck,,....

FED:...let me state right now...I AM NOT A GOOD SINGER ...IAM NOT REALLY EVEN A MEDIOCRE SINGER.....lol...but i have to go with what i have..:D .....but im glad you could see past my vocal shortcomings..its not that i dont know they are there...but after oh i dunno 257 takes you start to get more and more ok with it...

p.s...."coffee cup line is a reference to a drinking game i played in highschool...called "quarters"..where you bounced a quarter on a table and if you made it into a cup..(even a coffee one).you got to make someone drink.....;)

TRIPLE M:..i really like yer stuff so the fact that you feel ok about this is a bonus!!!...i actually re-did the whole vocal track last night ..and after i re-do the guitars i will slap it back on here for review...and the begining was just cause i was bored ..i dont really like it either.......thanks man!!!

I don't know anything about Line6 stuff, so i can't help there. do you not have an amp? i think it would be pretty easy to get a good tone for this song with any amp.......you can get a pretty good guitar sound even out of the cheapest of amp, so I'd try that if possible.

LINE 6 AXSYS is an amp..one of those "modeling".amps..i mean its a real 2 speaker 150watt pedal board amp...i just never used anything but the pre-sets...presets appear to be my whole recording.."approach"..lol.....maybe i should just skip them and just use it plain....something until you posted this that i never even thought of..??......i am so lame.

ok........i was thinking Line6 and their POD crap. I wasn't thinking about their amps........yeah, take off all the effects and reverb and stuff and just play through it straight.........maybe a touch of distortion.........Line6 amps are actually sound pretty solid, but with all the onboard effects, they can be too tempting to use and can ruin a good solid tone.....i almost got one last year.........i went with a Marshall and don't regret that decision at all , however, Line6 has some good amps. Also, make sure you're micing it as opposed to the line out and playing at a decet volume (you're probably doing these things already). i don't know a thing about most recording stuff, but i have managed to get some guitar sounds that i really like.........hope this helps

on the contrary ....i am absolutley using the line out ...can i screw this up any worse?!?!?!?..lmao...its amazing i can even get it to produce sound....right??..

jamal:confused:

This is pretty kick ass jamal. I'd love to hear it performed by a band, kind of John Lennon meets Green Day IMO. Sorry no mixing comments, I'm still too knew at that :)

hey.

thats pretty darn good.

kinda catchy and nice playing.

the guitar sound isnt too bad but when i go for those distorted flangey sounds i like to slow the flange way down so you dont get the obvious whooshing.

you can get some very interesting and useful chorus phase and flange sounds by reducing the speed to almost zero depending on the range of control you have.

presets tend to be for the dudes who break the thing out of the box and play by themselves rather than for semiserious recordists like us.

the only way to find the right sounds is to experiment in the mix. its tedious yes but the only way cause when you play the sounds solo you dont get the context.

if you can find a sound you like on cd then try to recreate the sound with your modeling amp and record it onto your mix. maybe keep a mix handy for this?

i think you will be able to get your own signature sounds that way. compression and the hi-cut controls for delay and reverb are of the highest importance!

sorry to go off on a lecture ha ha.

:)

another two minute songwriter! cool. i like the song. like the harmonies. i'm a sucker for harmonies.

i agree with the lennon/green day comment. that's a really cool mixup if you think about it.

also wanted more bass but i was listening to the 'rainy day less bass' version so maybe i'm looking for the 'rainy day more bass' version instead?

seems to be a lot of focus on the guitar sound. sorry, can't comment. sounded fine to me but i'm not a guitar player.
