The usual suspects. Korg d1200 or 1600 yamaha ag16g I wont spend a thousand dollars with no warrenty on ebay for a used akai dps16. or will I

So the korg and yamaha have crappy pre amps

But the korg has better effects but the yamaha has better EQ and dynamics. If i go up to an akai dps24 ive read they have crappy reverb.

Heres my circumstanses My wife plays 6 nights a week down here in Key West she plays solo with just a guitar, some times a friend comes to play violin. So I cant record at home on her one day off, plus she plays better in front of an audience than in a studio. I have to set her up and break down every night out on a pier.

Right now i record on to a sony cdr33 cd recorder from the headphone jack of her yorkville ap812 powered mixer which doesnt have channel aux sends.

I was wondering if I could get a Y or a couple of signal splitters if theyre better, for her guitar and mic. Then i could send the seperate signals to her powered mixer and a multitracker?

But sence these multitrackers have crappy preamps. So id have to bring and set up a pre amp every night to record. So I guess I want a multitracker with the best pre amp which I believe I read was the Akai. Because i can borrow a good reverb effects unit and do mixing at home with out her.

So Do I have to buy a good pre amp or are the ones on the akai good enough?

I dont want a big DPS24 and I dont want to pay a thousand dollars for a no warranty DPS16. So Im back to a korg or yamaha with a pre amp.

I will be on every recording site reading for the next week reading everything I can.

Down here in Key West there is just a bunch of burnt out muscians who only know their own gear, and one tiny little crappy music store. And my wife works 6 days a week and its 4 hours to miami. So this computer is all Ive got to go by.
By the way her name is Raven Cooper and you can watch her and listen to her several times a month at sloppyjoes.com from noon to 4. She just turned 21 i met her 2 years ago she was a drummer i took her to the woods of maine and locked her up with a guitar for a year. Now i dont believe how much money she is making. Thanks

 One should consider a mixer/multi trk recorder.........

No DAWS here.

No comment on the DAWs you mentioned.

If the pre-amps are your big concern, why not look into a laptop based setup. You could connect a firewire device like the M-Box or MOTU to a laptop and be fairly mobile.

The Yamaha has pretty good pre's on it. And the DSP is awesome in comparison ot the others top notch. If you can find a deal on the AW4416 for around $2200, you will not be disappointed. If you like I know of a Mastering Engineer who can tell you the level of quality of the Yamaha is far better than the other standalones. The AW16G is a 16/44.1 version of the AW2816 and AW4416. You can also add the waves expander and more I/O when needed. I studied this topic intensely about a year ago. Id rather 16 tacks of Yamaha than 24 track of Akai, Korg, Roland etc...

Funny I use an Akai dps16 with an 8 channel Yamaha Pre ( but itsa a damn shot better than the pres the y put on thier daws). what you need is an 8 input daw that can interface with a small rack. Even an Akai dps12 would be nice for that.
