Hellooo, I need help buying some monitors! I am upgrading to a firepod so I will also need a set of powered monitors. I am willing to spend about 500$. Am I going to need to save more for an entry set for a home demo rig? Recording 2 guitar drums bass and a bit of harmonica and mandolin. I've looked at the KRK RP-8's, M Audio BX8A, Event Tuned TR8.
I am still working around some learning curves as my very miniscule setup slowly grows so please bear with me. I definitely wanted active (aka powered?) monitors.

All I am working with currently are a pair of Audio Technica H-M40fs's..

Thanks again for any/all input or suggestions!

Monitor speakers

If you could budget a bit more the Genelec 8020A Powered Studio Monitor would be my first choice in that price range for a pair. Next might be Fostex PM-2 MKII Active Nearfield Studio Monitors at $500. We use these in some areas at work. I have cheapie Fostex 6301B's at my pc for editing.
But as you well know, this is very subjective and best choice would be to audition pairs before you buy.

I got a pair of M-Audio Audiophile montors for like $300/pair. I like them, the only complaint is the 4" woofer, isn't big enough to do a lot of bass, but they get the job done.

Those Genelecs interest me but are they going to be able to handle bass monitoring?

Jsut a quicke here:
Active/Passive is NOT the same as powered/unpowered.
An Active speaker is one that has a crossover after the amlpifier, a passive one is one with the crossover before the amplifier. Although most active speakers are actually powered, and most passive ones unpowered, there are some exceptions
(For example, some of the old Peavy and "Pro Audio" brand unpowered speakers had active crossovers. Come to think of it, before connetors like NL4/8, there were probably a lot of unpowered, active speakers)

I am sleepy now. It's 0420.

That you will have to decide for yourself. They have plenty of bass for television work, including bands on live shows. I don't remember if they are in mixdown rooms, effects room, music room or general show mix, but we have plenty in use in numerous studios.
