I bought Acid 4.0, but I'm a little pissed

Anyone else feel like SF's charging us big bucks for baby upgrades?

GC is selling A4 for the same price that SF wants for the upgrade. I was gonna let it pass completely, but finally decided I really needed the VSTi capability, because my Delta 66 doesn't do soundcard type stuff. The 7 freebie loop discs they include helped tip the scale - only 3 really interested me, but at $50 a pop, it paid for itself.

But the 4.0 was such a minor upgrade, I can't help wondering if they're trying to squeeze a last few bucks out of a dying platform.

WordStar was pretty impressive once, too.

5.1 mixing, VSTi support, ASIO, and MIDI sequencing don't sound like a small upgrade to me. IMO, the MIDI alone is worth the upgrade.

Midi was in 3.0. Midi implementation in 4.0 is still weak, albeit improved. ASIO doesn't mean much since I'm not realtiming (though I suppose I could now, with midi record and VSTis). And full 5.1 requires another plugin, I understand. Plus my Delta 66 isn't up to it.

I love Acid, still. I'm just peeved that they price the upgrade as high as street for a new one. It's no way to treat your loyal customers.

Hmm...I didn't realize it was like that. That makes it seem not quite as worthwhile. Anyway, I don't use Acid. I use Vegas, so how do you think I feel? Vegas 4's improvements are looking to be primarily video oriented. It's sad, but I've already started using the Sonar demo as I feel I'm going to have to migrate at some point in the not too distant future.
