Bump, does anyone on here know anything about online promotion?

The sites I've seen with the greatest hits are the ones with something truly phenomenal or something really stupid.
A friend of mine has some sites that I will post after I talk to him that may be helpful to you.

Get it up on CD Baby, advertise in signatures on every forum you visit, put up a good website, if you're into social networking, Myspace and Facebook, get it on Pandora and as many radio stations as you can.

Start, and don't stop.

Expanding on the Social Networking method of promotion. If you can set up a website through some cheap hosting thats the first way to go, but that requires paying for a domain name and hosting fee.

The better and free way to go is to setup a free blog on Wordpress.com or Blogger.com and use that to promote yourself and band daily, by telling people about what your latest tracks are.

1. Setup a Youtube channel by creating a free account. Upload videos of yourself and your band singing your songs. Make sure the sound quality is professional or near it. And if possible, make sure your music is COPYRIGHT PROTECTED. You'll build a pretty good user following if your music is good or spectacular and all the major recording labels scout Youtube now for great talent, so upload your best stuff.

Youtube also has a revenue sharing program where you can earn some cash if your videos get a lot of views.

2. make sure to have a link from your Youtube Channel back to your free Music blog at wordpress or blogger.

3. Promote your music on Facebook. Add a lot of friends and join as many music promotion groups as you can. Facebook is the most used site on the internet now so use it to promote. It supports embedded videos on your user wall. So you can embed your own videos from Youtube directly on Facebook.

And if you can get your music sold that would be great. A previous poster mentioned CD Baby which is a great service. Also setup a Myspace account, they're focusing strongly on Musicians like they originally did when the service first launched several years ago. And you get paid a percentage of the profit if users purchase and download your music.

Good luck my friend, new artist need as much promotion as they can get.

Thanks guys, just wondering is tunecore better than cd baby?

Get out and play as much as possible sign up at sonic bid and pimp yourselfs like there is no tomorrow. And all along the way develop an e-mail mailing list.

tweet for download

I haven't tried this method directly just yet, but i stumbled across an artist doing it and thought it was a fresh spin to the social networking route. The idea is to post links to this around places, saying you're giving away a download basically free, but in return for a tweet or Facebook post about your band. I think it'll work to a certain extent because it'll give people a taste of your album and if they like it they can buy the whole thing, and even if they don't it'll spread your free download around twitter and Facebook for others to see and enjoy.

to be honest, I've heard some pretty darn good music on myspace/facebook and what not - but nothing that I have felt really compelled to download. Especially not if I have to comment on their page

that's kinds like the "pc4pc" thing. (which I only recently learned the meaning of, so don't feel bad if you have to google it)

1st, make good music, 2nd, start at home and branch out, 3rd, post on youtube, myspace, and facebook. ETC ETC

For me Reverbnation works great, it has a lot of free stuffs that helps you get started. Like the facebook application, is synchronized with reverbnation. Add a message and it will be on Twitter, facebook, myspace, bebo and others. Send mails to all your fans at once. Build a Street Team, reverbnation's got all of this for free... but with a limit... over the limit you have to pay, but it's great for a start.

Regards.
