I am REALLY confused, please help me!!

I never heared complaints about the fostex D 16, seems good value for money. you also have some alternatives from Alesis and Tascam
 
How would I set it up on my computer? Please give me specific information on how to do this as well as product information.
 
depends on your budget...

when you say you want 10 tracks, look towards the Delta 1010 (info at midiman.com and several threads on this board), it is good value for money. You can use it in combination with software, but then again: the choice of your software may depend on your budget.

Lemme' get this straight, now. You say you want to be able to PLAY 10 tracks at once, or you want to be able to RECORD 10 at once? Or both? Are you willing to do the mixing of your tunes on the computer using software mixers, or are you one of those guys that absolutely has to do the actual mixing on the mixer?

How many tracks do you need to be able to record at a time? Do you need to be able to track a full band or several people at once, or is it okay to just record a track-at-a-time? What would this studio of yours be used for?

Is the quality and reliability of your mixer important? If so, I would do a search on that brand and model you are purchasing before you buy. :) You might not be too hot on that model once you read some of the reports on it.
