My buddy gave me Reason3.0, I'm not sure what is exactly. I was curious to find out before i download it onto my computer. I am already running Cubase6 (which i have no problems and am very happy with).

It's another DAW app....which is now up to version 6.

I have never used it, but I think Cubase might be more "robust/refined"....though it really only matters which DAW works best for you, so you should check it out, and if you don't like...stick with Cubase.

Reason is an excellent program. I went from 3.0 to 4 and now have 5. I don't use it as I would a normal DAW because it is kind of a self contained program. Reason 5 and under does not have the ability to record with your own tracks with an interface (I think Reason 6.0 has full recording ability). It is based on samplers, synthesis and many other tools. I use it all the time for synths, drums, etc. It is a great complimentary program to any of the other DAW's.

Reason is nothing like cubase in any way.

In fact, it should have never been marketed as anything other than a nice set of virtual instruments (because the sequencer up to version 5 was garbage).

Anyhow, I'm on version 5. Using rewire into cubase is the way to go, don't bother with the sequencer in reason (it's a joke compared to cubase, especially the older version you have).

Also: There is a demo of Reason, I see no reason to "acquire a program" from your friend.

This is true. I know it has other capabilities, but the primary use seems to be as a rewired app that gives you synthesisers/sequencers/effects and that kind of thing.
