You can make that same thing!

Just buy yourself a stereo volume potentiometer, and all the in and out jacks you would need for running your signal through it.

Hook the pot to the + (hot lead) of the input jack the run it to the output jack. The other wire should just run straight through. You can buy a project box from Radio Shack for cheap. Your total cost to build the same thing would be about $25-$30.

The purpose of this box is so that you can leave your software mixer on full volume, but control the volume of your monitor system. If you use the volume control on the software mixer to turn down the volume, the sound will be crappy!!! If you don't understand DSP and all that, then it would take too long to explain why this is.

Anyway, the box IS a good idea, but you can probably make it for far less then they are charging for it.
