humming with eq aux send/return

humming with eq -how would u hook it up?

ok heres the situation
the mixer is a Samson MDR1688 16 channel 4 bus mic/line
line into the board back out etc is fine
aux1 send and return for the g-major is fine
the issue im having with the humming is when i try to send and return the EQ
through aux2 ...as soon as i plug it up the humming starts...
it isnt the aux 2 ive switched the g-major to aux2 to test it ...works fine on both 1 and 2...
bad cords maybe?
or could it be the EQ its self?
should i get some type of noise supressor?
its about time i bought new cords as well...any suggestions for use with the mixer?

You're having grounding issues. Google: Star Grounding Rack Gear
Also, you want to run that EQ thru the INSERT, not an AUX:D

why put it thru the insert? whats the difference?

and if its in thru the insert where do i output it?

should i run the g-major thru the insert as well? or is it ok thru the aux

i jus tlooked on the harmony central website and one suggestion was shoulder washers and electrical tape to free the faceplate from the rack another guy uses self adhesive foam circles ...is that the issue?

i have guitar mesa triple rec 4sx12 cab g-major and dod eq i want to use

how would you hook it up? im about frustrated...when i hooked the gmajor thru the aux as soon as i turned aux2 up there is alot of hissing and background garbage...

If the way the sliders are set in the picture is actually how you are EQing, then you have a more serious problem than a grounding issue.
 
they are not set that way when i was using the eq


no sooner than when i plug the eq up it humms
 
An AUX is a PARALLEL circuit. When you send something to an AUX, you are splitting that signal. Some of it goes through the outboard gear and some of it continues through the channel strip, then they are mixed back together. You control the amount going to the device with the AUX SEND knob.
This is perfect for time based effects, like reverb or delay, where you want to have control over how much effect is being mixed with the original signal, via the AUX SEND pot.

How much signal do you want to send to an EQ for it to be effective?

All of it.
That's why you use the INSERT. The insert is a SERIAL circuit. The entire signal leaves the mixer channel to pass through the outboard gear (eq), and then returns back to the channel. To do this, you will need an INSERT CABLE. Looks like a Y cable but is TRS at the bottom of the Y and TS at the tops of the Y. This is how the insert can both send and receive from just one jack on your mixer.
Keep in mind that this is usually how you would want to connect a compressor, also.

Switch the ins and outs on the send and return side... make sure it's an insert cable and not a Y cable
 
its a livewire stp-201 "send-return" insert cable 3.3 ft.

still no go...hmmmmm :confused:

i have guitar into mixer out thru main mix to input on triple rec out from triple rec to 4x12

exactly where are you plugging each jack on the insert cable?
 
forst i will say i appreciate all the help you guys are giving me...
my guitar goes into channel 3 on mixer
ring into the input of the gmajor and tip into the output and the single 1/4 inch into the insert channel 4 plugin on the mixer
i have tried to switch them but that doesnt work either

im wondering if i should just input from geeetar to boogie with eq and gmajor thru the boogie fx loop and just mic the 4x12 into the mixer......
this is down right pissing me off....
