Ok. So for the last year I have been trying to figure out where a "HUM" is coming from my studio. I have an RE 20 Mic. A Mackie 1402 VLZ going into my 27 inch IMAC. I am using Adobe 5.5 Audition(Latest version). I think I finally figured out where the hum is coming from. My IMAC monitor. I turned it off and the hum disappeared. NOW. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

What interface are you using to get from the Mackie to the iMac?

Distance! Get that monitor away from your interface, mixer, etc.

That's what I was thinking. I used a PC before with hard drive on the floor. With Mac. Its all inclusive.

Hmmmm.

Distance MIGHT fix this but it might also be to do with the earthing/mains arrangements. It would be a worthwhile experiment to simply move the mixer farther away to see if this helps. If not, you may have to have a think about the mains/earth connections for your computer, mixer and interface.

The noise is internal. In other words No grinding outside but it seems be coming through as though Mic is picking up internal hard drive noise. I will try to rearrange things.

Taking my gear and IMAc to apple for a diagnostic and so they can hear issue. They're saying Could? be a fan or hard drive noise.

Moving the Mackie Mixer did the trick. Hum gone after separating everything.

Great news. The alternatives would have been harder to cure.

It sure says something about the lack of EM shielding in iMacs and Mackies though. I thought Mackie claimed to have sorted out their vulnerability in that area.

I would have taught the Mackie to sing = no more humming!

Goodbye Jon. :(
